Training Designer - District Office

PRIMARY FUNCTION: Primary emphasis on course development, training development, and employee training focused on the application of pedagogical practices and the integration of instructional technology tools. Serves as project lead, training designer and course developer on district-wide course and training development teams. Support training content owners and subject matter experts in the design of course materials for all delivery methods (face-to-face, hybrid, distance learning). Support training content owners and subject matter experts in the use and integration of technology including graphics, multimedia, and productivity software; web-based applications, social media tools, and other emerging technologies. Evaluate courses (design, materials, and presentation). Provide feedback and recommendations for improvement.
Essential Job Functions:
  • Designs and develops courses demonstrating knowledge and experience of instructional design, development, implementation, and assessments in instructional technology, learning theories, and effective assessment of programs.
  • Designs, develops, and delivers employee training, in various formats (face-to-face, hybrid, online and computer-based instruction) for course design topics.
  • Designs and develops interactive and multimedia instructional programs using the latest technology; including but not limited to software, hardware, web-based applications, social media tools, and other emerging technologies.
  • Leads district-wide course and training development teams serving as instructional designer, course developer, and project manager for the project.
  • Consults with training content owners and subject matter experts to incorporate instructional technology tools (graphics, multimedia and productivity software; web-based applications, social media tools, and other emerging technologies) based on an active, collaborative, and authentic instructional approach for all delivery methods (face-to-face, hybrid, distance learning).
  • Supports training content owners and subject matter experts in the effective use of training technology.
  • Performs detailed project management in development and delivery of high-quality courses and trainings in accordance with College policies and procedures.
  • Writes and edits course and training materials demonstrating effective oral and written communication, interpersonal, organizational, and project management skills.
  • Reviews developed courses in the decentralized training structure, providing recommendations and support for course improvement.
  • Evaluates, tests, assesses, and provides recommendations on emerging instructional technologies and technology enhancements.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Participates on committees and councils as appropriate.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge in instructional design, development, implementation, and assessments in an academic environment, instructional technology, learning theories and effective assessment of programs.
  • Ability to perform as project lead / project manager in cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to write and edit instructional material and training documentation.
  • Ability to design, develop, and deliver interactive training of graphics, multimedia, productivity, web-based and social media applications.
  • Ability to learn new technologies quickly.
  • Effective oral and written communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Skill in integrating technology in a wide variety of instructional situations.
  • Skill in adapting to the needs of a changing program.
  • Skill in using a variety of graphics, multimedia, productivity, web-based, and social media applications.
  • Skills with internet applications, interactive video, and other technologically-mediated instruction.
  • Knowledge of Cornerstone platform.
  • Knowledge of instructional pedagogy.
Required Education:
  • Master's degree in instructional technology, instructional design, or education.
Required Experience:
  • Two years of work experience in an academic or training setting with one year in an instructional design or academic design environment with an emphasis on distance learning delivery.
Preferred Experience:
  • Two years of project management experience.
  • Teaching experience.
Note: This position has opportunity for limited remote work arrangements with appropriate approvals and in accordance with the policies, procedures, and needs of the College.

Salary Grade: 116
