Position Summary
The Groundskeeper performs semi-skilled work in the maintenance, care, and modification of University grounds and landscapes which includes the operation of electrically-powered and gasoline-powered grounds keeping equipment and machines, and the use of small hand and power tools or equipment in planting, cultivating, and trimming grounds and landscaping.

This position also assists with trash and recycle collection as well as events and moving/hauling.
Primary Function of Organizational Unit
To provide excellent customer service, grounds, housekeeping, waste, rescycling, and sanitation services to the University.

Describe the specific job duties related to this competency
The Groundskeeper performs semi-skilled work in the maintenance, care, and modification of University grounds and landscapes which includes the operation of electrically-powered and gasoline-powered grounds keeping equipment and machines, and the use of small hand and power tools or equipment in planting, cultivating, and trimming grounds and landscaping.

This position will also assist with Trash and Recycle pick up on campus as well as moving and hauling. Grounds crews participate in event set ups for campus.

General knowledge of the landscape trade and skills in the use of the equipment and tools of the trade. Operates grounds equipment to mow lawns, trim hedges, prune trees, seed and fertilize. Plant shrubs, flowers, grass and trees as appropriate to enhance the campus landscape. Water flowers and plants as required. Remove leaves, paper and other debris from the campus landscape, walks and drives. Remove snow and ice from campus walks, drives and streets as required. Perform moving, hauling and special set-up duties as required. Patch campus roads and drives as required. Install campus signage as requested. Use sprayers to spray weed killers in flowerbeds, sidewalks and drives. Edge around walks, drives buildings and stationary equipment. Perform routine preventive maintenance to grounds equipment and make minor repairs as required. Managing Work Performance, Processes, and Training: Supervise staff, direct projects, monitor successful completion of projects, complete disciplinary procedures, and complete yearly evaluations. Function as a safety officer, monitor proper handling of equipment, and ensure staff is completing assigned tasks satisfactorily.
