Summary: Directs quality assurance programs and on-site QC Lab.

Job Requirements:

  • Manages the Quality Analyst, Microbiology Coordinator, Quality Coordinator and all laboratory personnel.
  • Director of HACCP and food safety programs and their implementation as required by the FDA.
  • Maintains laboratory by preparing yearly operations and capital budgets.
  • Serves as ISO Management Representative by coordinating the maintenance of the ISO 9001 certification with all Dubuque process owners. Assists in leading the internal audit team by identifying training requirements of auditors, training auditors, scheduling audits and evaluating audit effectiveness.
  • Manages quality documentation systems by reviewing, preparing and approving policies and procedures, as necessary for ISO/IFS certifications.
  • Ensures compliance to standards by introducing and training new employees to ISO/IFS concepts including risk management.
  • Performs GMP & sanitation inspections of the plant and reports results to local management and other key stakeholders.
  • Prepares quality reports, to quantify the plant's quality success, and trains employees in concepts of statistical process control and total quality management to facilitate process improvement.
  • International Featured Standard (IFS) Food Representative. Leads and manages compliance with GFSI global standards. Always prepared to meet all standard requirements.
  • Performs quality reviews of critical documentation for compliance with stated requirements.
  • Reviews data obtained during quality assurance/lab activities to ensure consistency with company policies and procedures.
  • Develops new approaches to solve problems identified during quality assurance activities.
  • Prepares and presents technical and program information to the management team.
  • Directs technical and administrative workers engaged in quality assurance activities.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of government and industry quality assurance codes and standards.
  • Designs and implements quality assurance training programs to key personnel in conjunction with managers.
  • Investigates and adjusts customer complaints regarding quality and provides continued customer support.
  • Leads in conjunction with the HSE Manager, QHSE and Management team reviews.
  • Assists with regional and global projects as requested.
  • Acts as principle contact for external quality audits and customer requirements.
  • Directs CAPA & RCA investigations.
  • Manages technical specifications for customer base.
  • Follows all food safety procedures and practices to promote our food safety culture.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Manages three subordinate positions and laboratory technicians. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Science-related Field or Quality Management; or five to ten years related experience and/or training.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • External certification in HACCP, FSMA PCQI, IFS, Food Defense, amd ISO.
  • Previous management experience.

Physical & Environmental Demands: Employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, use hands to handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Employee may be exposed to wet/humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, chemicals, outside weather conditions, and an electrical environment.
