Overview

THE OPPORTUNITY

The National Louis University (NLU) University Library is seeking applicants for a full-time, bilingual (Spanish & English) Teaching and Engagement Librarian at the faculty rank of Assistant Professor. This position is primarily based at the Chicago campus and reports to the Executive Director of the University Library. The University Library seeks to hire faculty who are proactive, innovative, collaborative, creative, forward-thinking, and excited to engage and collaborate with students, faculty, and staff around teaching and learning. While this position is based at Chicago, occasional travel to the Wheeling campus may be required. This is a 12-month faculty position with a hybrid work schedule that could potentially work remotely, depending on needs/coverage.



Essential Responsibilities

    Teaches in a variety of modalities and settings, including credit courses, classroom instruction sessions, library chat, and one-on-one student appointments, and creates asynchronous learning materials.
  • Contributes to the university's course development process by advising subject matter experts and instructional designers on copyright, the selection of course readings, and the development of assignments with information literacy or research components (in both English and Spanish). This role also advises on the ethical use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools.
  • Leads the development of outreach efforts and programming to engage the campus community and communicates with multiple university stakeholders to market and implement events/activities that promote library resources and services.
  • Designs publications and outreach materials, such as posters, handouts, social media posts etc., to promote library services and resources.
  • Participates in faculty governance and university-wide initiatives.


Qualifications

  • MLIS from an ALA-accredited institution or international equivalent
  • At least 2 to 3 years of professional experience working in academic libraries
  • Availability during weeknights (until 7 p.m.) for events and student appointments
  • Fluent in English and Spanish

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated interest in developing pedagogical strategies inclusive of all populations and modalities
  • Basic knowledge of generative AI tools, especially in the context of academic integrity and information literacy
  • Experience with the creation of learning materials in a variety of modalities
  • Experience and current knowledge in social media strategies and outreach
  • Experience with library discovery tools and systems, especially Ex Libris's Alma and Primo and Springshare products
  • Demonstrated experience working collaboratively with various stakeholders to implement and manage projects and to problem solve
  • Knowledge of current and emerging systems and trends in academic librarianship and in higher education

Compensation decisions are dependent upon the facts and circumstances of each position and candidate. Offers are based on multiple factors permitted by law, including but not limited to: budgetary considerations, job-related knowledge/skills, experience, current/previous faculty rank, market considerations, tenure and standing with the university (applicable to current employees), and internal equity.
