JOB TITLE:

Lecturer, Asst OR Instructional Professor, Asst - Course-Based Undergraduate Research Experiences

JOB PURPOSE:

The University of Wyoming Science Initiative is seeking an Assistant Lecturer/Assistant Instructional Professor for its Course-Based Undergraduate Research Experience (CURE) program. This position will develop and oversee multi-semester CURE curriculum in a university-wide program that involves undergraduate students in experiential learning and real-world research starting as early as their freshman year. The CURE program is centered at a newly built, state-of-the-art interdisciplinary undergraduate research lab housed in the UW Science Initiative Building. The successful candidate will also serve as an instructor for introductory and advanced undergraduate courses in the Science Initiative. The position is a fixed-term, rolling contract, 9-month, full-time, benefited position and can start between early spring and early summer based on candidate availability.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Development of, and day to day administration of, the Science Initiative's CURE program.
  • Student and faculty recruitment for CURE courses.
  • Assisting faculty with CURE course development and leading curriculum development for CURE program
  • Promoting and providing information about the CUREs on campus, as well as to the state and region through participation, as appropriate, in events like, but not limited to UW Discovery Days, State Science Fair, and articulation conferences with Wyoming community colleges.
  • Working closely with the undergraduate research laboratory coordinator to ensure that CURE student learning outcomes align with laboratory safety protocols.
  • Teaching duties to include one large freshman or sophomore level class in a biological sciences core department and two CURE courses either in area of expertise or specifically designed for undergraduate research students.
  • Oversee assessment of CURE programs and assist faculty in designing and coordinating assessment of individual courses.
  • Presenting results from CURE assessments at professional meetings and seeking extramural support for this research program as needed.
  • Meet with and gather once-per-semester updates from approximately 25 undergraduate research students from the Wyoming Research Scholars Program.

REMOTE WORK ELIGIBILITY:

This position provides vital support to campus customers and requires the successful candidate be available to work on campus.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • For Assistant Lecturer, M.S. in a biological or related science
  • For Instructional Professor, Ph.D. in a biological or related science
  • At least 5 years of lead instruction in courses at the university level
  • Demonstrated experience in curriculum development and assessment
  • Demonstrated experience mentoring undergraduate students in research
  • Demonstrated knowledge of CURE pedagogy and student learning outcomes
  • Valid driver's license with a motor vehicle record (MVR) compliant with the University Vehicle Use Policy.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Evidence of research productivity through peer-reviewed publication and public presentation in area of expertise
  • Demonstrated knowledge of research enriched pedagogy
  • Demonstrated experience in program development or program articulation
  • Experience in teaching introductory molecular biology or biochemistry
