The Opportunity Genentech, a world leader in biotechnology, is seeking a highly experienced and innovative Senior Principal Scientist for driving automation in our Cell Line Development (CLD) group within the Cell Culture and Bioprocess Operations (CCBO) department. The Senior Principal Scientist will play a pivotal role in leading and advancing our CLD initiatives to support the development and production of biopharmaceutical products. This position requires deep expertise in CLD processes and automation within the biopharma industry. What You'll Do
Execute CLD Projects: Execute cell line development projects from plasmid DNA construction and transfection through to lead clone selection and cell banking. CLD Automation: Drive the implementation and optimization of automated CLD platforms and processes to enhance productivity and consistency. Technical Leadership: Provide scientific and technical leadership in CLD, mentoring junior scientists and collaborating with cross-functional teams to achieve project goals. Innovation and Strategy: Identify and develop innovative CLD strategies and technologies to maintain Genentech's leadership position in biopharmaceutical development. Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all CLD activities comply with regulatory requirements and industry best practices, preparing documentation for regulatory submissions as needed. Data Analysis: Analyze complex datasets to inform decision-making and refine CLD processes. Collaboration: Work closely with other departments including Antibody Engineering,Cell Culture Process Development, Purification Development, Analytical Development, Regulatory and Quality to ensure seamless integration of CLD activities with overall project objectives.
Who You Are
Education: MS or PhD in Chemical Engineering, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, or a related life sciences field. Experience: A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in cell line development within the biopharmaceutical industry. CLD Expertise: Proven track record of executing and leading successful CLD projects. CLD Automation Expertise: Proven track record of leading efforts to implement new CLD automation technologies. Technical Skills: Deep knowledge of molecular biology, mammalian cell culture, recombinant protein expression systems, gene editing tools, protein analytics, high-throughput screening techniques, liquid handling programming and database management. Communication: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams. Problem-solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on innovation and continuous improvement. Regulatory Knowledge: Understanding of regulatory requirements for biologics development and experience with filing regulatory documents.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in developing cell lines for commercial biopharmaceutical production. Prior experience in a leading biopharma company. Publications or patents in the field of cell line development and related technologies. Familiarity with GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) environments.
Relocation benefits ARE available for this role. The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of South San Francisco, CA is $143,300 - $266,100. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
