Job Description:

The Paralegal II - LABR is responsible for providing support and assistance to attorneys in the management, coordination, and administration of all aspects of the practice area within established administrative procedures. An onsite or hybrid work schedule is available for this position.

Location: Los Angeles, CA

  • Refine and improve knowledge of various legal procedures.
  • Assist with trial preparation.
  • Utilize legal research databases (i.e. Westlaw and Lexis).
  • Understand and learn how to apply state and federal procedural rules.
  • Coordinate service of process (local and nationwide).
  • Draft removal documents for cases being removed from State court to Federal court.
  • Understand Federal Court Electronic Filing and State Court Electronic Filing in several states.
  • Review and edit legal documents. This includes spelling and grammar checks, fact checking, sherardizing legal authority, blue-booking legal citations, redactions, reviewing privilege logs and document formatting.
  • Conduct research projects, including public records and publicly-available websites for information on individuals and entities.
  • Manage discovery productions and/or liaise with eDiscovery Services to manage and organize discovery workspaces.
  • Reports to clients and assist in maintaining communications.
  • Draft routine motions and discovery requests and responses.
  • Tracks and completes projects within given deadlines.
  • Provide status updates throughout the projects.
  • Coordinate projects with direct supervision from attorneys and consultation with senior paralegals.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:
  • 4 - 6 years of paralegal experience.
  • Paralegal Certificate preferred.
  • Bachelor's Degree required. Work experience in lieu of a degree will be considered.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to interact with internal and external personnel of all levels.
  • Attention to detail with the ability to meet varying deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient in some aspects of the practice area.
  • Intermediate knowledge of practice support systems and group specific software.
  • Continued willingness to learn and collaborate with senior paralegals.
  • Proficient knowledge of applications typically used (i.e. Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Understand use of electronic databases (i.e. Relativity and NetDocuments). This includes maintaining extranet databases and case files.

In accordance with applicable Federal and State laws, the anticipated annual salary range for this position, depending on location, is as follows: Los Angeles, CA: $69,807 to $99,851

In addition to a standard benefits package, this role may be eligible for additional contingent compensation based on an array of factors, including but not limited to: work performance, geographic location, work experience, education, and qualifications. Because such contingent compensation is not yet calculable or may be zero ($0) in some circumstances, the above-listed salary range(s) are Nixon Peabody's good faith estimate of the annual salary(ies) it reasonably expects to pay for the position at the time of this posting.
