JOB PURPOSE/SUMMARY:
Attention hardworking and enthusiastic 2Ls or 2Ls looking for a paid legal internship this summer. Join us at Young Brothers, LLC (YB), Hawaii's only authorized interisland cargo water carrier!
One (1) intern will be selected to participate with the Legal Team of Young Brothers, LLC's Strategic Initiatives & External Affairs Department. The intern will have the opportunity to gain valuable practical legal experience and contribute to the ongoing operations of a regulated water carrier that transports freight of all kinds throughout the State of Hawaii. The intern will have the opportunity to make connections in a variety of professional fields or areas of interest, particularly in the fields of utility regulation, maritime or admiralty law, and local government affairs. The YB Legal team will work closely with a mentor and senior leadership who will provide guidance and feedback to the intern's performance.
OVERVIEW:
* Time Frame: Flexible start and end dates beginning mid-May 2025 and ending mid-September 2025 (Max duration - 90 days)
* Location: YB Administration Offices: 1331 N. Nimitz Highway (Piers 39/40)
* Pay: $27/hour.
* Benefits: Intern selected will receive direct access and guidance from seasoned legal, regulatory, and government affairs professionals and opportunities to interact with various business units within the Company. Free parking on site.
* Intern Qualifications:
* Must be currently enrolled in a J.D. program at an ABA accredited school.
* GPA of at least 3.0.
* Excellent verbal and written communication.
* Proficient in typical use of office computer applications and ability/willingness to learn new software, if necessary.
* Ability to work well in teams.
* Strong work ethic and attention to detail.
* Preference for students who have completed Administrative Law, Business Law, Contract Law, Maritime/Admiralty Law, Regulatory Law, and Real Property Law courses. Basic understanding of corporate organizational documents and accounting principles is also preferred.
* Schedule: Schedule will be determined by the intern and the mentor assigned to the intern at the beginning of the program.
Internship is granted based on candidates meeting minimum qualifications and a successful interview. There is no promise or guarantee of placement of employment.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is mostly performed in a normal office environment. May be required to work more than a normal work week, including weekends. Travel may also be required. Regular and predictable attendance is a requirement.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; use hands or fingers; handle or feel; talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Ability to move between buildings, ascend/descend stairs, access vessels, and go outdoors in all kinds of weather. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. The workday usually has a high number of interruptions and priority changes necessitating the need to remain flexible and focused in order to accomplish tasks.
