Shipfitter
PURPOSE:
- Performs non-routine difficult specialty trade duties in support of customer contracts and with company procedures and policies. Specialty trades may include certified: Welders, Pipe fitters, Braziers, Universal A/C&R Mechanics or, Electricians. Trades that use or operate specialized equipment may also be categorized- riggers, sheet metal workers and painters/specialized coating applicators.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
- Under general supervision, performs standard and non-standard work that is dependent on trade specialty. Works from blueprints, tech manuals. Receives instructions on semi-routine and difficult assignments. May provide training and guidance to lower levels. Performs all necessary tasks (semi-skilled and unskilled) laboring duties related to the installation, maintenance and repair of a wide variety of systems and equipment.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS:
- Ability to apply standard job skills and company policies to complete a wide range of tasks. Ability to use of basic hand tools, portable power tools, and tools of specialty. Ability to read and understand blueprints. Ability to perform multiple tasking and meet critical deadlines. Applies job skills and company policies to complete a wide range of tasks. Ability to provide on the job training to lower levels.
IMPACT:
- Develops solutions to a variety of problems of moderate scope and complexity. Resolves routine questions and problems and refers highly complex issues to higher levels.
WORK RELATIONSHIPS:
- Contacts are primarily with immediate supervisor, coworkers assigned to task, customer personnel.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- HS education or Trade School + 4 years of related Exp.. Prefer technical/professional certifications.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS/ EQUIPMENT USED:
- Basic hand tools (hammers, wrenches, pliers, saws, etc); portable electric/pneumatic tools (drills, grinders, saws, etc); bench grinder, drill press, hydrostatic or other test equipment; welding, cutting, brazing, rigging blasting, coating and material moving equipment. Computer skills including the ability to log on and navigate through as series of menus/icons on a major system and the basic use software, electronic mail and internet.
PHYSICAL QUALIFICATIONS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes. The exact weight requirements will be determined by the specific job, but no less than 20 lbs. Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces. Able to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels. May ride ships at sea for extended periods. May require wearing a respirator. Most work is performed aboard ships or in industrial conditions. Travel may be required within and outside of the continental United States
- Shop, shipboard, warehouse, industrial environment. May be exposed to fumes and irritants including welding/burning fumes, paints, oils, greases and various cleaning solutions and solvents, noise, high heat and humidity hazards while wearing the required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
