Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The Office of Scholarships and Student Aid works to ensure that qualified students have the opportunity to study at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill regardless of their ability to pay. The office serves students at all levels, including graduate and professional school students and coordinates all student financial support for the campus. The office assists in the recruitment, retention and success of students while maximizing available funds, exercising good stewardship of those funds, and performing related research, analysis and program evaluation in support of long-range enrollment and campus goals. In addition, the office provides academic and co-circular support services for scholarships, provides financial literacy and educational tools, and partners with faculty and other student success areas across campus to provide excellent service to low- and middle-income students and other scholarship recipients. The work of the office is public in nature and closely scrutinized by students and their families, lawmakers, faculty and staff at the University, and by the media (local, regional, and national).
Position Summary
The Office of Scholarships and Student Aid seeks an innovative, enthusiastic, and organized individual for the position of Assistant Director for Scholarships and Programming. This is a full-time, permanent position which will report to the Associate Director of Scholarships and Global and will coordinate with colleagues in the Division of Enrollment and the University Development Office.Red, White, and Carolina Blue ( RWCB) Scholarships provide renewable need-based financial support to students who are military dependents. The largest of these, the Steve & Debbie Vetter Military Families Scholarship Fund, provides additional funding to support programming to develop the networks, opportunities, resources, experiences, and skills students need to succeed in college and beyond. The position is designed to connect recipients to each other as well as other resources on campus, and to create a sense of belonging and identity. The program coordinator will help identify and select scholars, design cohort activities and development opportunities, advise, coach and counsel students and coordinate visits and events connecting scholars to their donors.The successful candidate will administer a variety of university need-based scholarships, select scholarship recipients, and update financial aid offers. They will also serve as the program coordinator for a special subset of scholarships and work closely with other departments concerning student eligibility and policy matters. The position also provides professional support as needed to the leadership in the Office of Scholarships & Student Aid.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent); for candidates demonstrating comparable independent educational or instructional activities associated with the delivery and/or management of student support functions, will accept a relevant Bachelor's degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and at least 1 year of relevant experience in substitution.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Experience coordinating and leading student success or other related student programs at a four-year institution. * Experience with grants, scholarships, and financial aid administration.* Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage and connect with student populations and collaborate with campus partners.*Hours - Availability/flexibility to work some evenings and weekends.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
* Master's degree in higher education or a closely related field.* 3+ years of experience coordinating undergraduate student success programs and events.* Experience supporting cohorts of college students.
Special Physical/Mental Requirements
Campus Security Authority Responsibilities

This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities.
