Overview

Department Overview

Enterprise Support Services function is to provide complete operations and maintenance service support so that our physical facilities (buildings, equipment, machinery, systems and grounds) may operate at an optimum. Optimization of our facilities will promote and ensure safe, clean, and compatible working conditions for employees. Enterprise Support Services activities include building maintenance and repair, office space planning and associated move coordination, leasing administration (building/property), construction project management and Physical Security. This area also assists with corporate office moves, reconfiguration projects for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama and affiliate companies.

Primary Responsibilities

The Data Center Technician (DCT) is responsible for monitoring, operating, maintaining, and repairing mechanical, electrical, and other building equipment in the data center facility. The DCT demonstrates professional competency in performing multidisciplinary engineering activities directly related to the plant/facilities operating environment without any disruption of service. The DCT reports to the Data Center Facilities Manager (DCFM) and completes assigned projects and maintenance tasks. The DCT works in full cooperation and harmony with other data center facilities and IT staff to assure continuous uninterrupted data center operation. This is a 'hands on' position working with electrical and mechanical service tools and diagnostic equipment. DCTs utilize computers to answer emails, input payroll information, take online training, work with a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) and research work related information on the internet.

Summary of Qualifications

  • Technical Institute Diploma or equivalent trade school, military training; or work experience in an engineering discipline
  • Two years of experience working in a sensitive data processing environment or other critical facilities
  • Valid government issued driver's license and driving record clear of offenses
  • Willingness to work in confined spaces and/or on elevated platforms and ladders
  • Knowledge of building codes (electrical, plumbing, Heating/Ventilating & Air Conditioning [HVAC], and building)
  • Experience in troubleshooting and repair of equipment
  • Experience using hand tools and power equipment
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.

*Please note: This is a FT day shift position (Monday - Thursday 6:00 am - 4:00 pm). The incumbent must be flexible to work nights, weekends, etc. as required.

Work Location

The work location for this position will be full-time onsite.
