We Require

  • Four years of working in the management and/or operations of the park, forest, public recreational, or historical area, which included planning and conducting recreational educational activities and enforcing laws and ordinances
  • Bachelor's degree in natural sciences, biological sciences, parks and recreation management, forestry, or related field
  • Postgraduate degrees or professional-level-related experience may substitute for education or experience on a year-for-year basis

We Also Value

  • One year of experience managing a natural resource or conservation area
  • Two years of management experience
  • Certified Parks and Recreation Professionals (CPRP)

Job Contributions

  • Plans, organizes, coordinates, and supervises a regional park and its services, facilities, and activities, including, but not limited to, special use events, natural/cultural resources protection, trails, campgrounds, other park facilities, park safety program, in-captivity animal care, and multi-agency coordination
  • Responsible for supervising, hiring, evaluating, and training park staff and volunteers; plans, prepares, and revises work schedules and duty assignments according to park operation and customer needs, issues, workload, and statistical forecasts
  • Performs routine reviews of facilities and trails; develops, delegates tasks, and coordinates maintenance repairs and improvements to park utilities, facilities, and amenities for maximum quality utilization
  • Coordinates Park administration, including maximum revenue and most efficient utilization of facilities via activities through the entry, nature center, souvenirs, point of sale system, budget development and monitoring, marketing, and daily functions, including purchasing requests; resolves customer inquiries and complaints
  • Coordinates the volunteers for maintenance/custodian and administrative duties
  • Protects and manages the park; provides oversight, collects fees, and ensures compliance with park rules and policies. Responds to emergencies and notifies appropriate law enforcement/emergency organizations; coordinates and maintains a level of awareness to ensure the safety of park visitors, staff, and the overall park environment
  • Responsible for reports on revenue, risk management, monthly summaries, project progress, attendance, budget, and other required reports; create alerts on website and social media posts
  • Other Job Duties as assigned

Working Conditions

  • Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Arizona driver's license by the time of hire
  • Exerting 20-25 lbs. occasionally, 10-25 lbs. frequently, or up to 10 lbs. constantly
  • The position is typically office or administrative work and is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions
  • Incumbent may be subjected to extreme temperatures, wetness/humidity, respiratory hazards and noise and vibration
  • Incumbent may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, vibrations, fumes, odors,
    dusts, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace
