DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position is a trainee role focused on the operation of highway construction and maintenance equipment, alongside various manual labor tasks within a highway or bridge maintenance team. The training will prepare you for the necessary licensing and certification to operate heavy construction machinery, specifically including Heavy Truck/Tandem Axle (HT/TA) and loaders with a bucket capacity of 4.5 cubic yards or less. You will be responsible for conducting and documenting essential pre- and post-operation inspections, making field adjustments to ensure safe operation and reduce equipment wear. The role involves operating various hand and foot controls, utilizing seat belts, and managing tire chains on dual wheels. Additionally, you will engage in diverse manual labor tasks using both powered and non-powered hand tools, such as shovels, rakes, hammers, lutes, chainsaws, compressors, jackhammers, tampers, hand mowers, trimmers, routers, patching machines, and heating kettles.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment.
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
  • Work schedule is subject to change due to weather/season. Winter shifts - 4:00 AM to 12:00 PM or 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Special Requirements:

  • This position requires possession of a valid Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C Driver's License or equivalent.
  • This position requires possession of a valid Pennsylvania Class A or B Commercial Driver Learner's Permit on the first day of work.
  • This position requires possession of a valid Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations on the first day of work.

Conditions of Employment:

  • This position requires operation of vehicles or equipment with a manual transmission.
  • This position is subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations.
