THE POSITION

The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources is on the lookout for a Park Resource Ranger to join their team. This non-law enforcement role focuses on ensuring public safety within the realm of State Park operations and outdoor recreational activities, with the primary goal of fostering a secure and enjoyable experience for visitors at Ricketts Glen State Park. The ranger will play a crucial part in overseeing the safe use of park facilities, contributing to the overall well-being of all who explore this beautiful natural area.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this non-law enforcement role, you will engage with park visitors to address inquiries related to park amenities, recreational activities, historical context, environmental characteristics, and the surrounding region. You will oversee the park area using various modes of transportation, including motorized vehicles, bicycles, and on foot. Your responsibilities will include clarifying park rules, regulations, policies, and procedures to visitors and special interest groups, as well as notifying the Park Manager or DCNR Ranger when circumstances necessitate law enforcement intervention.
You will also be tasked with responding to emergencies or requests for help from both employees and visitors, administering first aid when necessary, which may include performing artificial respiration and cardiopulmonary resuscitation on injured individuals. Additionally, you will organize and execute search and rescue missions to find lost visitors within the State Park's grounds and boundaries. Monitoring the security of park buildings and facilities will be part of your duties, along with inspecting structures for potential safety hazards. You will prepare courtesy notices and manage traffic control during both emergency and non-emergency situations, while also assisting with information dissemination, reservation management, and permit issuance. - Seasonal Full-time employment without benefits.
- Shift hours and days vary due to operational need, with a 30-minute lunch
- Weekends, holidays, and all shifts as needed at 37.5 hours per week
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Special Requirements:
- This position requires possession of a valid Pennsylvania Class C Driver's License.
- All employees must obtain valid certification in standard first aid and adult, child, and infant CPR approved by the American Red Cross, American Heart Association, or equivalent within 60 days of employment.

- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
Legal Requirements:
- You must pass a background investigation.
- This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
- Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
- In accordance with Act 153 of 2014 this position is required to complete Child Abuse, Criminal and Federal Criminal History Checks around the time of hire and thereafter every 5 years.
