Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit |
The mission of the School of Nursing is to enhance and improve the health and well-being of the people of North Carolina and the nation, and, as relevant and appropriate, the people of other nations, through its programs of education, research, and scholarship, and through clinical practice and community service. The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Nursing has been the leader in nursing education in North Carolina throughout its history. Established in 1950, it was the first school of nursing in North Carolina to offer a four-year baccalaureate nursing degree program followed by the first master's degree program, the first continuing education program for nurses, first doctoral program, and first accelerated
BSN option to students with college degrees. Today, the School is renowned for its academic programs, its research and its commitment to clinical and community service within state, national and global communities. |
Position Summary |
This opening presents an exceptional opportunity to join a public, research-intensive school of nursing with a consistent track record of funding from
NIH,
HRSA, and private sources.
UNC School of Nursing seeks accomplished individuals to join our dynamic team as an Associate Professor or Professor. We are particularly interested in recruiting faculty whose program of research demonstrates innovation and interdisciplinary collaborations and aligns with our research themes: nursing and health systems, biobehavioral research, digital innovation, multi-level determinants of health, community engagement, and preventing chronic illness and promoting health. To help us train the next generation of nursing leaders and scientists, applicants should demonstrate a record of teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Applicants should also demonstrate a record of successfully mentoring students at a level appropriate to career stage. We will consider applicants at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor as well as individuals currently at the rank of Assistant Professor at advanced level with demonstrated exceptional publication and funding history. |
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
PhD in nursing science or related disciplines preferred and/or doctorate from accredited institution. Ability to demonstrate comparable independent research program development, as well as educational and service activities that support the delivery and/or management of student functions. Ability and experience mentoring junior faculty, promoting intra-professional collaboration within home institutions, and developing nurse-led models of care or interventions in collaboration with healthcare systems and academic partners. |
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
An established program of research, scholarly productivity, national reputation, and demonstrated interdisciplinary collaborations appropriate to the applicant's career stage. A record of sustained external research funding.
A demonstrated record of excellence in mentoring and teaching appropriate to the applicant's career stage. |

Campus Security Authority Responsibilities |
This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities. |
