Position Title:AVP Children's Heart Center Department:Administration Job Description:

An OU Health Associate Vice President (AVP) of Children's Heart Center is a results-driven, ethical leader who oversees all Children's Heart Center operations and overall performance of the multi-disciplinary teams. The Children's Heart Center AVP is accountable to the Co-Directors of the Children's Heart Center and works within a matrix reporting relationship with the Children's Hospital executive leadership. The AVP is responsible for establishing effective strategies and implementation of programmatic growth, resource utilization, and outcomes that result in the service line's growth, efficiency, patient/employee/provider experience The AVP collaborates with Heart Center Physicians and Children's Executive Leadership at OU Health to develop, document, and coordinate long-range strategies, plans for services and operations of the Children's Heart Center.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for collaborating, coordinating, and implementing both short-, medium-, and long-term tactics; develops and operationalizes strategic initiative in patient care delivery across the Children's Heart Center
  • Leads and supports initiatives that promote a culture of civility and identify bias in care delivery.
  • Implements data-driven approaches to transformative change through collaboration with others across the organization to achieve established, enterprise-wide metrics.
  • Upholds professional accountability to ensure strategic initiatives and deliverables are executed with high-quality and cost-effective outcomes.
  • Manages the overall budgetary and financial responsibilities of the Children's Heart Center, supporting the organization in the annual planning and budgeting process through appropriate prioritization of initiatives based on expected impact, necessity, and alignment to organizational goals.
  • Aligns behaviors with OU Health values, serving as a role model for staff.
  • Fosters an inclusive workforce where individual differences are valued and maximized to achieve OU Health's winning aspiration.
  • Effectively manages the retention and performance of the team through coaching, providing real-time feedback, training, and routine recognition practices. Develops the ability of others to perform and contribute to the achievement of the organization's metrics.
  • Recommends, develops, and implements policies and procedures. Ensures the compliance of all policies, procedures, and requirements of appropriate regulatory and accrediting agencies.
  • Works closely with senior management, physicians, and other health care professionals to ensure quality patient care.
  • Resolves patient complaints in a timely manner in accordance with policy.
  • Conducts a broad range of healthcare/business-development related research. Draws conclusions from data and makes suggestions/recommendations to management.
  • Creates executive level presentations, maintains databases and dashboards designed to facilitate leadership planning, evaluation and decision making.
  • Actively involved with senior leaders and directors in service line pillar goals by focusing on progress and completion dates. Identifies and reports barriers to supervisor toward reaching goals.
  • Responsible for implementation and use of patient satisfaction data for assigned areas. Participates actively in committees related to patient experience.

General Responsibilities: Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's Degree in healthcare or related business field required. Master's degree preferred.

Experience: 5 to 7 years of progressive leadership experience, including leadership in the inpatient and outpatient hospital setting. Cardiac experience preferred.

License(s)/Certification(s)/Registration(s) Required:

For RNs: Current RN License issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing, or a current multistate compact RN License (eNLC) with established Oklahoma residency within 6 months.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Understands academic medical center structure, service-line structures, institutional governance, and hierarchy of decision process.
  • Demonstrated business acumen with ability to complete quantitative and qualitative analysis and financial models. Experience using metrics to drive decisions.
  • Ability to leverage industry standards and integrate global thinking to make strategic decisions, problem solve and calculate risk.
  • Ability to think creatively and strategically to successfully mediate and negotiate with individuals/groups internally and externally.
  • Ability to overcome obstacles to cooperation and to foster harmonious relations.
  • Ability to maintain integrity and trust among leadership and staff.
  • Proven ability to lead and motivate individuals, groups, and cross-functional teams and provide project management support.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills characterized by candor, openness, integrity and ability to be diplomatic.
