Job Description

The Department of Surgery is seeking a Senior Student Support Specialist to play a critical role in supporting the medical education programs within the department. This position will serve as a liaison between the Office for Medical Education, Clerkship Director(s), and medical students, acting as the first point of contact for third and fourth- year medical students. The Senior Student Support Specialist will maintain communication with medical students, faculty, residents, and staff, ensure the efficient execution of student schedules, and assist in various administrative tasks related to medical education. The role requires strong organizational and communication skills, as well as the ability to handle sensitive student information with confidentiality.

Key Responsibilities:

* Assist with the management of the clerkship orientation schedule for third-year medical students. Manage the scheduling of fourth-year medical student rotations. Ensure that all schedules are up to date and distributed to relevant parties.
* Serve as the main point of contact for correspondence with medical students, faculty, residents, department staff, and OR staff regarding schedules and other relevant matters.
* Develop and maintain the block schedule for 12 individual blocks per academic year. Ensure proper allocation and management of student schedules.
* Edit, submit, and maintain accurate medical student grades and reports. Work closely with faculty to ensure timely grading and feedback for medical students.
* Maintain student files and block records in an organized and confidential manner. Ensure all relevant student information is up to date and accessible when needed.
* Assist students in the elective selection process, providing guidance and ensuring that all elective choices are properly documented and scheduled.
* Oversee the visiting student application process from submission through to grade submission. Ensure that visiting students are properly integrated into the program and schedules are coordinated.
* Update and maintain the Department of Surgery Student Education handbooks, ensuring that all information is accurate and current.
* Prepare and process annual evaluation reports for medical students and residents, ensuring that evaluations are collected, compiled, and submitted in a timely manner.
* Provide administrative assistance to the General Surgery Residency Coordinator and Director with various tasks related to the residency program as directed.

Shift

Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Anticipated Hiring Range

Hiring Range: $18.50-26.34
