Job Description

The EEG Technician performs EEG, sleep EEG and other related procedures in the hospital. This position performs electroneurodiagnostic procedures, including all aspects of EEG multiple modalities. This position must respond to STAT calls via telephone within 15 minutes and be able to report to the hospital within one hour (60 min) of call duty.

Responsibilities

  • Operates a variety of types/models of neurodiagnostic equipment. Assists the physician in performing neurodiagnostic procedures as necessary.
  • Schedules inpatient testing with appropriate personnel at outlying mobile facilities.
  • Explains the test procedure to the patient.
  • Attaches and removes electrodes to/from the body. Cleans the patient as needed.
  • Records impulse frequencies and differences in electrical potential between various areas of the brain to obtain data for use in diagnosis of brain disorders.
  • Receives and implements all suggestions for improving the quality of future EEG recordings. Recognizes abnormal EEG and epileptiform patterns. Recognizes artifact (patient or environmental).
  • Logs EEGs and completes charges in HIS.
  • Cleans and maintains the equipment and testing room in an organized and sanitary fashion.
  • Assist in other duties as assigned to support the operational needs of the department and organization.
  • May be required to remain on campus immediately before, during, and after severe weather and/or disasters.


Qualifications

Minimum Education

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent Required

Minimum Work Experience

  • 1-3 years Experience in patient care Required

Licenses and Certifications

  • BLS for Healthcare Providers (BLS) American Heart Association Upon Hire Required

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • Knowledge of Neuro anatomy
  • Understand the disease process of the brain
  • Knowledge of the international 10-20 system
  • Ability to recognized abnormal EEG patterns
  • Basic computer skills
