Investigator, Student Conduct - Central Campus

PRIMARY FUNCTION: Upholds federally-mandated Clery, Title IX, and VAWA compliance and handles student-related complaints and Code of Student Conduct violations, including related investigations and appeals processes. Provides consultation to College leaders and staff on student discipline cases and complaint processes.
Essential Job Functions:
  • Conducts investigative meetings with students and determines appropriate education sanctions for students charged with violations of the Code of Student Conduct and for student-related complaints.
  • Provides consultation for students with complaints, questions, and/or concerns regarding allegations of sexual misconduct (e.g. sexual harassment, sexual assault, dating violence, stalking, and domestic violence).
  • Communicates with students, faculty, staff, parents, attorneys, and others regarding student conduct matters.
  • Foster positive working relationships with the San Jacinto College Police Department and collaborate with them on Clery Act reporting.
  • Develops and maintains student conduct records in the Maxient Discipline Tracking software in accordance with all federal laws and College policies. Monitors and ensures records are compliant with federal and state laws, including the Clery Act, and Title IX.
  • Conducts training for faculty and staff regarding the functions of the Compliance and Judicial affairs department.
  • Maintains the Student Rights & Responsibilities webpage on matters related to the student disciplinary process and student-related complaints.
  • Represents Student Rights & Responsibilities as a member of the College's Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT) with other administrative units to address and resolve issues including threat assessment strategies.
  • Maintains thorough knowledge of applicable laws and regulations regarding student discipline, student records, victim's rights, and the adjudication of cases involving sexual misconduct as related to students through training and professional development.
Additional Job Functions:
  • Assists with student programming and learning outcomes in the area of student rights and responsibilities designed to improve student development while achieving institutional objectives.
  • Assist with the development, administration and revision, as appropriate, of departmental policies and procedures and student conduct policies and processes consistent with College community standards and professional best practices.
  • Assists with the appointment of hearing board/impartial hearing officers and provides training for staff, faculty, hearing boards, and others on appropriate resolution of student conduct matters.

  • Knowledge of and/or experience with federal and state legislative mandates pertaining to students such as the Clery Act, VAWA, FERPA, Title IX.
Required Education:
  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally-accredited college/university.
Preferred Education:
  • Master's degree in a related discipline from a regionally-accredited college/university.
Required Experience:
  • Two or more years of student conduct, legal assistant, paralegal, or counseling experience.
Note: The duties of this position require a physical presence at the assigned on-site work location during unrestricted operations with very limited or no opportunity for remote work arrangements

Salary Grade: 115
