Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Senior Media Relations Coordinator.

NYU Langone Health is seeking an experienced Senior Media Relations Coordinator based to join the Media Relations team within the department of Communications, Marketing, Government and Community Affairs. This role, which will be based at NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn in the Sunset Park neighborhood, will support the further advancement of the reputation of the hospital as well as Faculty Group Practices and Family Health Centers in the borough through earned and owned media channels.

Job Responsibilities:

Reporting directly to the Director of Ambulatory & Regional Hospital Media Relations, this position will play an important role in promoting and reinforcing NYU Langone's commitment to providing the best outcomes. The successful applicant will work to identify impactful stories highlighting patient care and outcomes, new service lines and clinicians, and the systems innovations across Brooklyn at the systems hospital, outpatient sites and family health centers, helping develop those into successful pitches strategically placed in earned media, utilizing local community publications and national media alike. This position will also collaborate with other teams in the Communications, Marketing, Government and Community Affairs department to ensure opportunities to amplify these stories are maximized through owned channels include social media, NewsHub, internal communications, and more.

This position will also assist with issues management in Brooklyn and other areas as needed, coordinating closely with the Director and Senior Director of Media Relations to respond in a timely manner, supporting the development of strategies and messaging, and conducting appropriate outreach, including possible nights and weekends as necessary. This role will require some travel across Brooklyn. While some remote work is permitted, this role will be expected to work onsite at least three days each week and will be expected to travel around the borough as needed.

Specific Responsibilities Include:

Media Relations:

  • Demonstrate a good sense of which stories will resonate with the public and earned media and how to effectively frame them to ensure the best coverage.
  • Manage multiple tasks at once, effectively prioritizing, making sound recommendations, and elevating as appropriate.
  • Contribute to effective and compelling communications strategies that enhance the reputation of NYULHs Brooklyn locations and services by developing ongoing, proactive media relations campaigns that showcase superior clinical outcomes and an excellent patient experience.
  • Identify media relations support needs and partner on implementation strategies and tactics.
  • Support the director in implementing media relations growth strategies that promote NYULHs growing ambulatory care footprint, specifically advancing the media presence of sites in Brooklyn and surrounding area.
  • Support the execution of NYULHs comprehensive media relations strategy through media campaigns and stories, developed under the supervision of the director, that highlight and promote NYULHs reputation in Brooklyn.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with members of the local and regional news media in Brooklyn.
  • Help develop stories and media materials, including press releases, media pitches, fact sheets, op-eds, external key messages, and positioning statements for hospitals and ambulatory services in coverage area.
  • Through partnership with the director and necessary leaders, ensure quick, accurate responses to media inquiries.
  • Support planning and execute logistics of events and press conferences.

Operational Excellence

  • Monitor key metrics and outcomes to gauge the effectiveness of the media relations strategy; adapt strategies based on outcomes.
  • Efficiently and effectively execute goals and priorities while adhering to organizational standards for delivering excellent work.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of public and media relations experience
  • Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, or related field
  • Experience working with local and regional news outlets
  • Working knowledge of promoting hospital and ambulatory programs
  • Experienced writer, editor, and verbal communicator; strong medical writing experience
  • Experience working on proactive and reactive media requests
  • Experience with building and managing press and media relationships
  • Working understanding of media relations and the media landscape in the US, with deep knowledge of the local New York and regional geographic contexts
  • Comfortable with digital content channels, including but not limited to social media
  • Experience elevating important matters effectively to the director and others in the organization as appropriate
  • Ability to work effectively in a highly matrixed environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in ambulatory and/or Regional Hospital setting
  • Bilingualism is an asset (Spanish/Chinese/English)

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $58,500.00 - $85,407.34 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
