Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:00 am - 3:30 pm

Note on dual location: primary job location at the Tukwila reference lab and some coverage may be at Overlake Hospital (Renton).

Laboratory Assistant responsible for entering patient and specimen information into computer systems and will prepare laboratory specimens for designated locations prior to laboratory analysis and testing, there may be travel to other labs to provide coverage. This position may require performance at Overlake Hospital, for staffing coverage. Additional training available to support the hospital pathology lab and pathologist. Training on receiving specimens, enter patient and specimen information into the laboratory information system, and package the specimens for courier shipments. Depending on the hospital location, this position will also provide assistance in procedures requiring slide preparations such as rapid assessments or frozen sections. Additional support activities include light administrative duties as requested by the pathologist, maintaining pathology laboratory equipment and reagents, and filing of blocks and slides.

You Will:

* Ability to perform support functions in the laboratory.

* Assess and accession laboratory specimens.

* Data entry and scan requisition images.

* Assist / Perform send-outs.

* Provide support services for other departments, clients, and pathologists.

* Quality control data entry.

* Review and update the Pathologist schedule each day.

* Pick up specimens from surgery or other hospital department locations for delivery to pathology.

* Assess and accession Cytology specimens.

* Assess and accession Histology specimens.

* Scan requisition images.

* Accessioning QA.

* LIS reporting.

* Handle slides for pathologist review.

* Assist with hospital procedures, including but not limited to Fine Needle Aspirations, Frozen Section preparations, and Bone Marrow.

* Maintains equipment.

* Maintain reagent supplies.

* Stocking supplies.

* Assist with tumor board preparation.

* Perform other related duties, as assigned, including cross training in other shifts or departments.

Qualifications:

* High school diploma or equivalent.

* Associate or bachelor's degree in laboratory science preferred.

* Laboratory experience/accessioning along with medical terminology knowledge preferred.

* Ability to maintain accuracy, especially with numeric sequencing.

* Excellent organizational skills & attention to details.

* Adhere to HIPAA patient confidentiality standards.

* Competency with computers and MS Office programs

* Willingness to be cross trained in other departments, as a Lab. Asst.

* Flexibility with hours, per cross training and operational needs.

Pay range: $21.10 - $28.00 USD Hourly

The amounts listed are the base pay range; additional compensation may be available for this role, such as shift differentials, standby/on-call, overtime, premiums, extra shift incentives, or bonus opportunities. Generally, new hire offers will be between the minimum and midpoint of the salary range, depending on experience (DOE), with the ability to grow within the range over time.
