LOCATION OF (1) POSITION(S) TO BE FILLED: DEPARTMENT OF VETERANS SERVICES, ADMINISTRATION / CEMETERY OPERATIONS DIVISION, RUTHERFORD COUNTY
A Motor Vehicle Records screening will be conducted prior to employment
Qualifications
Education and Experience: Minimum one year of full-time college credit.
Substitution of Experience for Education: Military Pay Grade of E-4 or above; honorably discharged.
Necessary Special Qualifications:
Applicants for this class must:
1. Possess a valid motor vehicle's operator license.
2. Be accredited by the General Counsel of the Veterans' Administration within 12 months of employment.
Examination Method: Education and Experience,100%, for Preferred Service positions.
Overview
Under general supervision, is responsible for professional veteran's benefits representation work of average difficulty; and performs related work as required. An employee in this class performs veteran's benefits representation work by aiding veterans and their dependents in filing and obtaining benefits.
Responsibilities
1. Evaluate Veteran's Administration determinations for compliance and initiates additional action as needed.
2. Interviews the claimant to determine veteran's era of service, duty locations, and military professions.
3. Reviews documents such as DD214s, medical records, personnel files, and other relevant documents. Create and submit claims package for adjudication.
4. Interpret Veterans Administration decisions and determinations to claimants. Provides guidance to claimants of available options in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
5. Assist and provide guidance to claimants/individuals in obtaining entitled benefits from local, state, and federal agencies.
6. Communicates with the public and provides exceptional customer service.
7. Participates in all training events as directed by the department to maintain State and Federal credentials.
8. Travels to assigned counties on a regular basis to inform and assist veterans, and dependents concerning entitled benefits.
