Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit |
World View offers year-round professional development programs in global education immerse K-12 and community college teachers, instructors, administrators, and staff in the rich cultures and dynamic forces that shape our world. As a program at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and apart of the Office of the Vice Provost for Global Affairs, World View is motivated by our public service mission to leverage the resource of the University to offer affordable, accessible, leading-edge programs and resources that education our state and our world. World View programs feature scholars, journalists, business professionals, non-governmental organization experts, instructional specialist and others who bring deep knowledge and broad experience translating complex global issues and offering practical solutions for classroom engagement. Educations return to their campuses and classrooms equipped with the knowledge, best practices and resources they need to integrate global education into their curriculum and prepare their students for an interconnected and diverse world.
The Office of the Vice Provost for Global Affairs has primary responsibility for shaping and implementing the University's global strategy while supporting global activity across campus. The Office of the Vice Provost for Global Affairs includes Global Education, Global Partnerships, Global Research Institute, International Student and Scholar Services, Development, Communications, Duke-
UNC Rotary Peace Center, and the Unified Business Cluster. |
Position Summary |
The
UNC World View Teacher-Student Initiative Assistant Director will develop and manage the
UNC World View Teacher - Student Initiative, connecting University global experts and resources to a select cohort of high school teachers and their students in North Carolina. The Assistant Director will research global issues and individually coach each teacher participant as they integrate global content within North Carolina teaching standards. In addition, the Assistant Director will plan the symposia session, virtual global content meetings,
UNC World View Student Day, and the
UNC World View Teacher- Student Initiative Collaboration Celebration and other Teacher-Student Initiative related activities, as needed.
This project's goal is enhanced professional development breadth for the teacher. and greater global awareness for students as they become the next generation of global leaders. |
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent); for candidates demonstrating comparable independent research productivity or comparable background in independent academic or instructional activities, will accept a relevant Bachelor's degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and 3 or more years of relevant experience in substitution. This experience may be related to the direction/oversight of programs that focus the academic and research resources of a higher education institution towards community or regional issues. |
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
Must have advanced understanding of global issues. |
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
Prefer several years of experience with high school classroom teaching and administrative planning, and professional development creation and implementation. |
Special Physical/Mental Requirements |
In-state travel to partner high schools is mandatory. |
