The Prosthetics Technician is responsible for fabrication of prosthetic & orthotic devices following prescription criteria, practitioner specifications and established timetables. Maintains and orders adequate supplies of fabrication materials and components. Responsibilities A day in the life of a Prosthetics Technician at Hackensack Meridian Health includes: 1. Contour uprights, bands and stirrups. 2. Maintains and corrects joint alignment. 3. Attaches stirrups to shoes and re-attaches heels and soles. 4. Prepares and sews leather cuffs, corsets and straps. 5. Drape molds thermoplastics. 6. Cuts out, trims and finishes smooth edges of plastic. 7. Adds lifts to shoes. 8. Drape molds thermoplastic sockets. 9. Fabricates foam liners. 10. Laminates sockets, frames etc. with proper reinforcement and alignment. 11. Removes socket and/or frame and makes every attempt to save model. 12. Trims socket and/or frame edges with smooth finish 13. Bench align prosthetic devices. 14. Shape endoskeletal foam covers and exoskeletal prostheses. 15. Laminates external layers and finishes exoskeletal prostheses. 16. Seals and adds separator to negative casts. 17. Adds correct amount of plaster. 18. Ensures minimal air bubbles in positive model. 19. Assures mandrel is correct in length & in appropriate attitude. 20. Removes negative impression from model so it is ready to be modified. 21. Monitor & check stock weekly. 22. Orders components & supplies before stock runs out or for particular patients that has been assigned. 23. Obtains supervisor initials/signatures on requisitions, calls purchasing for PO number and calls in orders at practitioner's request. Faxes PO Requisition to Purchasing Department. 24. Checks orders when received against packing slips, signs & dates packing slip and enters in Horizon Supply Source on computer. 25. Assists with year end inventory tallying. 26. Explains and demonstrates fabrication techniques. 27. Assigns tasks to technician trainees and students. 28. Alerts supervisor when inappropriate techniques are observed. 29. Wears safety glasses and mask when using routers and grinders. 30. Returns all tools to proper storage area when done. 31. Cleans collection pans, bags and filters monthly. 32. Cleans work station and other areas throughout the day. 33. Stops 1/2 hour before end of day to clean. 34. Alerts supervisor to unsafe conditions. 35. Travels directly to and from destination without delay. 36. Reports any problems to supervisor immediately. 37. Marks all chemical containers with proper CAS numbers when received from supplier. 38. Returns all chemical containers to proper storage areas. 39. Uses gloves and protective glasses when handling chemicals. 40. Cleans spills immediately and alerts safety 41. Other duties and/or projects as assigned. 42. Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior. Qualifications Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: 1. High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), and/or GED equivalent programs. 2. Demonstrated skill with power and hand tools. Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred: 1.
