Position Description

This Manager will be responsible for providing leadership and coordination of the Manufacturing Engineering team at Sundyne. The role will focus on driving key operational metrics, including but not limited to On Time Delivery, Efficiency, Productivity and cost reduction. This manager will be critical in maintaining and reenforcing commitments to EH&S and Quality.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

Will manage the manufacturing engineering team and support facility and equipment capital expenditure activities including but not limited to:

  • Drive EHS, Quality, and Continuous Improvement Culture.
  • Manage direct reports, a team comprising of product focused manufacturing engineers, process focused manufacturing engineers, and CAM Programmers (both on-shore and off-shore resources); this will include overall performance management; training and development; analyzing and resolving work problems; and discipline in accordance with company policies.
  • Lead team to achieve goals; promote and demonstrate effective communication and positive culture.
  • Collaborate with the Planning, Quality, and Engineering teams on production and planning schedules.
  • Establishes performance metrics for measurement, comparison, or evaluation of factors affecting operations functions.
  • Assists with Operations budget development and adherence.
  • Identify capital equipment requirements and develop business cases to support acquisition.
  • Evaluate technical constraints and order volume to aid make vs. buy decisions.
  • Understanding and advising on CNC Machine Operations, manual machine operations, CAM Programming, Manufacturing assembly methods, Pump and Compressor testing methods, and GD&T and interpretation of Engineering drawings.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

  • Ability to read and interpret manufacturing specifications and drawings.
  • Working knowledge of Siemens NX CAD software and Engineering models.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's of Science in Mechanical Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering required.
  • 7+ years of manufacturing or operations experience; experience must be directly related to machining operations, welding, project management, and assembly & testing operations.
  • 4+ years of production processes and methods in an Engineer to Order environment.
  • 2+ years working as a manufacturing engineer
  • Experience in managing direct labor employees in a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Proven ability to set tactical direction by aligning resources (people, facilities, equipment) to meet near term customer needs and concurrently develop longer term strategies to align with future business demands.
  • Positive, proactive, and passionate with demonstrated leadership skills in influencing, driving change, and motivating & developing people.
  • Demonstrated effective communication skills to build a customer service mindset among reports.
  • A bias for action in developing and implementing improvement plans to increase manufacturing yield and reduce fabrication set-up times.
  • Ability to influence resources outside span of control.
  • An error prevention mindset - must demonstrate in words and actions driving for root cause and corrective actions when necessary.
  • Effective listening skills and capable of resolving conflicts quickly with win-win solutions/outcomes. Ability to provide direct feedback & handle performance problems quickly.
  • Experience with Lean and Continuous Improvement.
  • Experience working in an ISO 9001 environment.
