We have an exciting opportunity for aProject Manager located in Chicago, IL . J. F. Ahern Co., Wood Dale, IL, is seeking a Project Manager. The Project Manager (PM) serves to successfully administer the full lifecycle of projects that vary in size, complexity, and duration within their assigned/designated division at J. F. Ahern. The PM ensures that all parties involved in the planning, execution, and support of a project accomplish project expectations from planning and scheduling, to fiscal management of the project and quality control. The PM coordinates each part of the project throughout its lifecycle and demonstrates outstanding customer service as the main point of contact for internal stakeholders and for the customer. The PM is responsible for managing all aspects of a project by conducting effective pre-plan meetings, maximizing resources in the buyout process, and supporting the field and/or shop labor to perform work efficiently. This may include, but not limited to: development, communication, and management of formal project plan; participation in major vendor equipment and subcontractor negotiations and purchasing.; accountability for all shop drawings, submittals, and approvals; manages information flow - generates and tracks RFI's; supports the field by breaking down the barriers; prices, negotiates, and processes change orders to contracts and maintains change order log; protects the best interest of the company and our clients by documenting correspondence related to all project matters to avoid claims; obtain initial schedule of projects as well as continual monitoring and update of schedule; general project close-out activities. Directs a team through project execution while making ad hoc decisions as necessary. Successfully lead a matrix team which includes building relationships and gaining the respect of field personnel along with managing the diverse expectations and opinions of all involved parties. Work with and through an internal network of colleagues and subject matter experts, and effectively collaborate with these internal resources across various groups including, but not limited to, engineering, design, and estimating. Quickly and effectively shift focus from the big picture to specific details and understands how the different perspectives impact the successful outcome of the project. Developing critical relationships both internally and externally, and has a genuine commitment to customer service so that s/he can effectively manage resolutions on customer reported problems. Responsible for managing client relations, in that s/he can identify a need for a client and present a proposal before the client requests something. Applies broad financial acumen to various financial and accounting related responsibilities of the overall project management including: read and understand project financials; effectively project gross profit on projects; accurately break-down the estimates and book projects; produce and manage an accurate forecast of project financials; develop and initial schedule of values and submission of monthly pay requests to accounting for processing; maintain an over-billed positions and ensure collection on receivables and/or retainages on a timely basis. Leading teams for which s/he does not have direct expertise, and is comfortable seeking out site foremen and/or other SME's to ask technical questions when s/he doesn't understand something. Provides daily direction and mentorship to Assistant PM's and other staff. Acts as a safety ambassador in partnership with the corporate safety teams. The PM is a local safety advocate and is knowledgeable of safety practices, and comfortable calling attention to possible safety infractions on the job site so that they are immediately rectified as we work to ensure the safety of all employees, contractors, and clients. The position is based out of our Wood Dale, IL office. May have the option to work remotely up to 3 days per week after 6 months of employment. Domestic travel required to jobsites 20-50% of the time across central and northern Illinois, with occasional travel to southern Wisconsin to plan, execute, and support assigned projects. Qualifications: Requires Associate's degree in Computer-Aided Design (CAD), Construction Management, Electrical Engineering Technology, Fire Protection Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Fire Protection Engineering, or related field. Requires 2 years of experience in project management/construction or related field, which must include: 2 years of experience in Fire Alarm (Basic, Voice Evacuation, BDA, Networking, 3D Coordination) and Special Hazard (CO2, Novec, FM-200, Inert Gas, Pre-action, 3D Coordination, Air Sampling, Pre-Engineered) project management; 2 years of experience with Notifier, Potter, Ansul, and Xtralis; 2 years of experience with AutoCAD, Revit, Notifier OnyxWorks, Xtralis Aspire and Xtralis VSM4; 2 years of years of experience with programming Notifier and Potter addressable fire alarm systems; 1 year of experience with customer service, which includes a proven ability to quickly build relationships with customers via the phone, email, and/or in person; 1 year of use with Microsoft Office products to develop and manage a project plan, along with related project management and estimating software tools including Quick Pen and Blue Beam.
