Internship opportunities exist across our footprint, and you may be assigned to a location based on availability. These locations include operating sites in Burns Harbor, East Chicago and Rockport in Indiana, Butler and Coatesville in Pennsylvania, and Cleveland in Ohio.

As a Material Science/Metallurgical Engineer Intern at Cleveland-Cliffs, projects in which an intern will participate will vary, depending on education level and plant, but will model the duties below to the extent possible.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Daily review of production process data
  • Analyze disposition of non-conforming product
  • Participate on quality improvement teams
  • Conduct and analyze mill experiments
  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly reports
  • Analyze current operating performance and standard operating procedures and make recommendations for improvement
  • Various other projects as needed to support the business

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Enrollment in a Bachelor of Science program in the field of Metallurgical Engineering or Materials Science Engineering
  • Completion of at least sophomore year of study by the summer of 2024
