Location: Lexington Park, MD

Security Clearance Requirement: Must be a U.S. citizen and eligible to obtain a DoD Secret clearance.

Telework Eligible? No, work will be performed on-site in our Lexington Park, MD office. We are unable to offer relocation assistance for this position.

As the Software Engineer, you will play a crucial role in the development of a cutting-edge prototype small Unmanned Air System (sUAS). This position involves designing, implementing, testing, and documenting software that controls flight operations, integrates and collects data from onboard sensors, autonomously makes flight path decisions based on incoming data, and ensures robust command, control, and communications (C3) with remote ground stations. This is an incredible opportunity for a recent engineering or computer science graduate with a few years of related work or internship experience and a passion for aviation.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, test, and document flight control software on small Unmanned Air Systems (sUAS).
  • Participate in design and code reviews of various modules and functions.
  • Write test plans, develop coding solutions, and perform validation testing.
  • Code, test, and debug complex software modules.
  • Implement verification scripts and validation test protocols.
  • Develop software in the loop testing.
  • Implement code on embedded microprocessors and for PC and tablet-based applications.
  • Aid in development and refinement of PCB designs and prototyping.
  • Collaborate with other engineers to identify and solve challenging problems.

Requirements

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Engineering, Computer Science or Applied Science; preferably from an ABET accredited college or university.
  • 3+ years of professional work experience as a software engineer, preferred. We may consider internship experience and/or less years of experience in the workforce.
  • Strong background in areas such as robotics, computer engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, applied science or aerospace engineering, required.
  • Proficiency in coding of systems using C, C++, C#, and Python in a Microsoft environment, required.

Preferred Experience:

  • Familiarity with sUAS control systems such as ArduCopter and PX4.
  • Experience with building and operation of unmanned vehicles.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite and Linux systems.
  • FAA Part 107 sUAS operator license.
  • Experience with software configuration management tools.
  • Familiarity with electric circuit design and/or signal processing.

Salary Range:

  • The estimated salary range for this position will be $75,000 - $120,000 annually, based on an individual's level of experience and skill set. It is our goal at ASEC to provide equitable compensation to all employees.
