Overview:

We are seeking an Emergency Management Specialist who will focus on emergency preparedness activities. This position resides in the Emergency Management team in the Laboratory Protection Division of the Facilities and Operations Directorate at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).

As part of our team, you will play a critical role in developing, implementing, and evaluating emergency management exercises to ensure the readiness and resilience of ORNL in the face of various emergencies.

As a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Science national laboratory, ORNL has an extraordinary 80-year history of solving the nation's biggest problems. Major Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Revise, Coordinate, and implement the emergency management assessment program, including internal and external assessments.

  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders for the completion of various implementation plans.

  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to design effective assessments.

  • Conduct reviews of emergency management plans and procedures to ensure compliance with internal and external regulations

  • Conduct causal analysis reviews of identified issues and determine corrective actions if needed.

  • Assist in the development of emergency management exercises, including drills, tabletop exercises, functional exercises, and full-scale exercises.

  • Assist in the development of emergency management training programs to enhance the emergency management capabilities of ORNL staff and stakeholders.

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and guidelines related to emergency management.

  • Assist in the development and maintenance of emergency plans, procedures, and protocols.

Basic Qualifications:

  • BS degree in emergency management, Public Safety, Homeland Security, or a related field.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in emergency management or a relevant field.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of federal, state, and local emergency management regulations and guidelines.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess a complex situation and develop effective solutions.

  • Causal analysis familiarization

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and to participate creatively in collaborative teams across the laboratory.

  • Ability to function well in a fast-paced research environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines, and adapt to ever changing needs.

Special Requirements:

  • HSPD-12 PIV badge:This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain an HSPD-12 PIV badge.

  • Q clearance:This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a clearance from the Department of Energy. As such, this position is a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position. WSAP positions require passing a pre-placement drug test and participation in an ongoing random drug testing program.

  • Visa Sponsorship:Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
