Position Overview The Equipment Maintenance Supervisor's primary focus is to manage all aspects of maintaining the project's equipment fleet. This will be accomplished by applying best practices, mentoring project personnel, and utilizing the Company's policies and procedures. Doing so will maximize equipment utilization and increase profitability while maintaining a safe work environment.
This position is based at the I-10 Mobile River Bridge Project in Mobile, AL. Key Responsibilities
Equipment Maintenance
- Prioritize and coordinate major and minor equipment repairs and maintenance. Thorough understanding of heavy civil equipment including foundation equipment, cranes, and marine equipment
- Able to operate, diagnose, service, and repair a wide variety of heavy construction equipment. Thorough understanding of diesel, hydraulic, mechanical and electrical systems.
- Coordinate crane movement and assure projects follow Company policies and guidelines. Ability to qualify as Assembly/Disassembly (AD) Director to manage assembly/disassembly in accordance with manufacturers' procedures, OSHA, and Company guidelines
- Reads and interprets repair manuals, intermediate electrical and hydraulic schematics
- Understand industry safety requirements including Federal and Company policies as well as complies with Company established policies and procedures
- Ensures all equipment is maintained in accordance with the manufacturers' recommendations, terms of the rental requirements, and company-established maintenance procedures
- Communicate with projects to recommend correct equipment
- Coordinate logistics for equipment and material to and from jobsites/yard
- Develop/maintain good working relationships with vendors/suppliers
- Ability to work independently and communicate with project management
- Support project pre-planning, mobilization, and job start activities
- Promote maximum and efficient usage of company-owned equipment, materials, and other company-owned systems. Communicate the importance of ownership with Project Management (strategic advantages, branding, profitability, efficiencies, etc.)
- Mentor, coach, and supervise equipment and maintenance staff at the project; develop and retain equipment personnel through recruitment, training, motivation, and coaching
- Maintain equipment records in Company systems (i.e., equipment transfers, equipment hours/mileage, material transfers, repair information, work orders, etc.)
- Assist with complying with corporate policies while still implementing the best business decision for the Company
- Ensure equipment daily inspection reports are completed; ensure equipment inspection procedures are in place and followed; document condition of equipment in and out of service; ensure that construction equipment is clean and presents positive appearance to the owner and the public
- Oversee preventative maintenance, annual certifications, inspections and oil sample results
- Maintain effective communication with vendors and manufacturers regarding equipment repairs, warranty consideration, scheduling, and repair costs
- Assist in implementing Company policies and provide support to management
Warehouse/Yard
- Coordinate and ship/receive equipment and material deliveries to/from Company storage yards. Organize and inventory all equipment.
- Manage equipment inventory at yard. Generate transfers following Company policies and procedures
- Maintain equipment service and repair for equipment stored in yard. Complete repairs and service for equipment going to projects. Prepare equipment for sale.
Supervisory
- Delegate daily tasks and oversee the performance of both hourly and salaried direct reports
- Provide direction and guidance to field operations team and project management in regard to equipment use, repair, mobilization, and safety
Qualifications
- Minimum 8 years of experience on heavy civil projects with working knowledge of heavy equipment repairs, including hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems
- Minimum of 2 years supervising direct reports
- Extensive marine and crane equipment knowledge
- Extensive experience in equipment maintenance, cranes and hydraulics, diesel mechanics, hydraulic systems, and electrical systems
- Previous experience with asset management software, capital asset software, or preventative maintenance software
- Knowledge of equipment management programs including maintenance and repair
- Technical-related degree preferred
- Valid driver's license
- Commercial driver's license, Class A preferred
- Proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel
- Ability to establish productive working relationships on the project, including vendors, superintendents, project management, and corporate leadership
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, and work within tight deadlines
- Ability to be flexible and work in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to solve problems related to equipment repairs
- Ability to identify risk when making repair decisions
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
- Ability to travel across the USA
Physical Requirements
- Work is predominantly site-based, with frequent walking/touring of project site
- Full personal protective equipment is required at all times
- Could be exposed to excessive noise, dust, dangerous substances, and excessive heights
- Exposure to various equipment, including trucks, cranes, backhoes, roofing kettles, etc.
- Exposure to inclement weather conditions
- Could be required to lift heavy items greater than 50 lbs.
- Travel to multiple project sites within the USA is required
