Position Purpose







This position functions as an internal consultant to leadership to identify, evaluate and develop action plans to ensure patient safety and reduce liability. This role is responsible for building relationships across the organization to ensure risk management support and provide assistance with patient safety initiatives.

This position proactively identifies areas of patient safety exposure and concerns, and coordinates the reporting of such data to appropriate leadership for analysis and action to improve patient outcomes and reduce the likelihood of loss.

This position utilizes strong interpersonal and presentation skills, as well as oral and written communication with contacts to clearly convey information, objectives and recommendations.

This position collaborates with colleagues on sentinel events and facilitates Root Cause Analyses (RCA) to identify opportunities for improvement as well as to minimize potential liability from identified occurrences. The Renown Health Senior Risk Coordinator provides education to departments and staff regarding RCAs.









Nature and Scope







This position conducts work in a transparent manner to earn the trust and loyalty of others. Cultivates and environment of psychological safety allowing others to speak openly and honestly.

The incumbent utilizes a mindful approach to decision making, considering the best interests of the team and the organization. Considers the 'big picture' to fully understand the impact of decisions on the organization.

The incumbent works collaboratively with departments to identify process improvement opportunities based on data, findings from an RCA or risk analysis from claims and other activities. This position assists with the tracking, trending and investigation, and reporting of occurrences, providing data to other leaders in the organization, and promoting process improvement to support patient safety activities.

The incumbent must demonstrate the knowledge and skills and clinical background necessary to analyze Safety Event reports to determine causes and assign to the appropriate leadership for review and further action and follow up.

The incumbent assists the Renown Health Risk Manager in mentoring and developing risk department staff, fostering an environment of continuous learning and advancement.

The incumbent must be highly motivated, self-directed and able to work independently and collaborate with staff, leaders and providers across the network. Must have the ability to work under pressure with time constraints, demonstrating proficiency in time management, prioritization and ability to manage multiple projects.

The incumbent must demonstrate content expert knowledge in a minimum of three high risk topics related to patient safety. Provides education and guidance to colleagues and providers on these and other risk related topics.

The incumbent position requires advanced leadership skills to recognize the need to alter the approach based on department goals and objectives, as well as the operating environment.

The incumbent demonstrates emotional intelligence based on the ability to handle changes within the department, adverse situations, conflict and difficult people.

It is common to encounter potential hazards in the healthcare environment. Some of these hazards could include, but are not limited to: Radiation, Toxic Chemicals, Biological Hazards, Heat, Noise, Dust and Stress. Renown Health has a Safety Management Program in place addressing these issues.

Education:



Must have working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing and speaking English. Bachelor's degree in a healthcare related field required. Master's degree preferred.



Experience:



Minimum of 5 years' experience in healthcare risk management or other relevant field. Demonstrates advanced leadership skills and ability.



License(s):

Certification(s):



Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management (CPHRM) required



Computer / Typing:



Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel and Word and have the ability to use the computer to complete online learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc.
