Job Summary: The Telematics Installer - Field is responsible for installing our telematics solution on vehicles and equipment. The Telematics Installer will play a crucial role in innovating, implementing, and optimizing telematics solutions to enhance asset management, improve operational efficiency, and reduce costs. This role supports internal and external teams by activating, registering, troubleshooting, and training our technology products, such as TFR/HIR Smart Fleet Telematics platform, Vision Link, DPL Telematics and various Allied OEM platforms, Rental Man and Salesforce.

The incumbent in this position is expected to model the following practices daily: 1) Demonstrate alignment with the company's mission and core business values; 2) Collaborate with key internal/external resources; 3) Participate in ongoing self-development.

Essential Functions:



  • Models, promotes, reinforces, and rewards the consistent use of HOLT's Values Based Leadership (VBL) tools, models, and processes to ensure alignment with our Vision, Values, and Mission
  • Installs SmartFleet telematics hardware on vehicles and equipment in the TFR/HIR Fleet.
  • Works through a variety of installation scenarios ranging from basic 3-Wire (Power, Ignition, ground) to complex (requiring custom wiring harnesses when accessing the CAN Network) on equipment and vehicles
  • Performs diagnostic troubleshooting and repair recommendations accurately
  • Advocates for the SmartFleet platform of solutions, and influences effective and consistent productivity and teamwork to ensure the delivery of Legendary Customer Service (LCS)
  • Works with team to help develop and implement telematics strategies to optimize equipment utilization, reduce downtime, and enhance fleet management
  • Uses multiple software systems simultaneously
  • Collaborates with vendors and service providers to evaluate and select technological solutions that align with the company's needs and objectives
  • Monitors internal/external client access to various Telematic Platforms
  • Communicates clearly and professionally with internal/external clients and HOLT/TFR/HIR
  • Stays updated with evolving telematics technologies
  • Utilizes existing execution/information systems and oversee configuration, implementation, and user acceptance of new or enhanced modules or hardware
  • Meets weekly install goals
  • Works safely always and adheres to all applicable safety policies; complies with all company policies, procedures, and standards
  • Requires regular and punctual employee attendance
  • Performs other duties assigned


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:



  • Knowledge of construction equipment sales industry
  • Handling large volumes of telematics data requiring robust infrastructure and efficient data processing
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and multi-tasking skills
  • Exceptional customer service and relationship building skills; customer retention
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Proficient with computer and related software applications
  • Monitor and analyze telematics data to identify trends, anomalies, and opportunities for improvement
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think strategically and make data-driven decisions
  • Ability to interact with tact and courtesy while maintaining a professional manner
  • Interpersonal skills sufficient to engage with customers, vendors, own staff, and leadership team to exchange information, influence and persuade

Additional Requirements:



  • Owns an extensive assortment of appropriate hand tools and has many specialized tools


Education and Experience:



  • High school/equivalent diploma or equivalent is required, Trade school certificate or related field preferred
  • Up to three years of work-related skill, knowledge, or experience preferred


Supervisory Responsibilities:



  • None


Travel:



  • Up to 80% travel may be expected to include frequent travel to branch sites and customers' locations
  • Valid driver's license


Physical Requirements:



  • Must be able to move objects, and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue
  • Frequently moves materials or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Constant movement and use of limbs; this position requires good manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina
  • Ascends/descends with gradual or continuous progress by oneself, using both hands and feet and climbs up and down ladders and/or equipment
  • Be able to maneuver safely and work underneath vehicles/equipment
  • Routinely reacts to visual, auditory, and other signals, including alarms and instructions, and is required to visually inspect work
  • This role frequently communicates with others, must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations
  • This role routinely uses computers, phones, and AV/video equipment


Work Environment:



  • Regularly works at branch or in field at customer sites
  • May be exposed to weather extremes when working outside in conditions that include inclement weather, heat, cold, and humidity
  • Noise level may be loud at times
  • Exposure to small quantities of chemicals, dust, steam, high-pressure water, and high-speed rotating equipment
  • Requires wearing common protective or safety equipment
  • Frequently works at fast pace with unscheduled interruptions
