1.0 JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY 1. I The basic function of the Jobsite Safety Coordinator is to assist the Safety Director and Project Teams in the overall supervision and administration of project safety programs in order to maintain a safe and healthy work environment 2.0 REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS 2.1 The Jobsite Safety Coordinator reports to and is directly accountable to the Corporate Safety Director 3.0 REQUIREMENTS 3. I Education 3.1.1 Required: Must have a high school diploma and have attended the OSHA 510 course. 3.1.2 Preferred: Four-year occupational safety and health degree or equivalent combination of training and related experience. 3.2 Licensing / Registration / Certification 3.2.1 NIA 3.3 Experience 3.3.1 Required: 5 years in the construction industry 3.3.2 Preferred: 5 years in safety and health and health for the construction industry 3.4 Skills/ Knowledge/ Abilities 3.4.1 Position requires advanced knowledge of and ability to enforce all federal, state, local, and company safety regulations required. 3.4.2 Ability to recognize hazardous situations and implement corrective measures essential. 3.4.3 Good interpersonal and communication skills are also required. 3.4.4 Good working knowledge of computers 3.5 Physical Requirements 3.5.1 The physical requirements may be stressful. Climbing, lifting carrying, and walking as required for site inspections are required. The senses required are being able to see and hear and having full power of speech. 3.6 Mental 3.6.1 Must be able to work under stressful deadline situations. 3.6.2 Must be able to communicate in English, verbally and in writing. 4.0 WORKING CONDITIONS 4.1 Work will be in a climate-controlled office part of the time with the majority of time spent in the field. Workdays will be from 8 to IO hours per day with some early morning or late evening meetings. 5.0 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 5.1 Assist the project teams with all safety related paperwork on the project. This includes but not limited to helping to maintain the OSHA 300 log, Project specific MSDS manual, Safety Violation Notice log, Hazard Analysis Forms, Accident Investigations, jobsite posters. 5.2 Review contract documents including plans, specifications, schedules, and meeting minutes to identify potentially hazardous task and work closely with the Project Superintendent and subcontractors to develop a safe work plan, 5.3 Provide technical compliance assistance to the Project Superintendent and subcontractors on Federal, State, Local, and Company safety requirements. 5.4 Inspect jobsite conditions for compliance with Federal, State, Local, and Company safety requirements. 5.5 Prepare written reports for each safety inspection, review with the Project Superintendent, and forward to the Safety Director. The original shall be maintained on site. 5.6 Enforce strict compliance with all safety requirements and immediately stop work and correct any hazardous conditions observed. 5.7 Participate in developing and conducting staff and subcontractor safety orientation and training. 5.8 Investigate and assist the Project Superintendent in preparing the appropriate forms for all accidents 6.0 COMMENTS The Project Superintendent has primary responsibility for safety on his/her project. controls related paper work on the project. This includes but not limited to
helping to maintain the OSHA 300 log, Project specific SDS manual,
Safety Violation Notice log, Hazard Analysis Forms, Accident
Investigations, Environmental Inspection Forms, and jobsite posters.

with the Project Superintendent and subcontractors to develop a safe work

subcontractor to ensure controls are installed, inspected, and maintained in
accordance with the storm water pollution protection plan.
Provide technical compliance assistance to the Project Superintendent and
subcontractors on Federal, State, Local, and Company safety and
environmental requirements.

must work closely with and assist the Project Superintendent to insure all
safety/environmental requirements are met.

1.0 Frequency of Inspections
1.1 Frequency: All jobsites within the safety coordinators region shall be inspected, at
a minimum, on a weekly basis. Inspections shall be prioritized in accordance
with the following.
1.2 Prioritization: Jobsite inspections shall be scheduled according to the degree of
risk associated with activities on the jobsites within the safety coordinators
region. Jobsites with excavations, scaffolding, steel erection, and roofing
activities take precedent over jobsites with less hazardous activities and shall
be inspected more frequently.
2.0 Jobsite Meeting Attendance
2.1 Pre-Construction Safety Meetings: Safety coordinators shall attend and
participate in all pre-construction safety meetings on jobsites within their
region. Attendance may be waived dependent upon activities at another
jobsite which require attention.
2.2 Subcontractor Coordination Meetings: Safety coordinators shall attend
subcontractor coordination meetings as often as feasible. If a project is having
excessive numbers of violations the safety coordinator will attend to discuss
violations, corrective action, and upcoming concerns with subcontractors.
2.3 Weekly Safety Meetings: The safety coordinator shall periodically schedule
jobsite inspections so as to be able to attend, participate in, and conduct
weekly safety meetings.
3.0 Inspection Notifications
3.1 Pre-Inspection: Upon arrival on site the safety coordinator shall contact the
project superintendent to notify them that they are on site to conduct a safety
inspection and to determine any specific activities / subcontractors on site that
the superintendent feels needs extra attention
3.2 Post Inspection: Upon completion of the safety inspection, the safety coordinator
shall conduct a post inspection review with the project superintendent to
discuss violations noted, corrective action taken, and items that require follow
up by the project team.
4.0 Inspection Reports
4.1 Timeliness: Upon completion of an inspection the safety coordinator shall prepare
a written report of the inspection. This report shall be written and distributed
as soon as possible after the inspection, preferable within 24 hours. It must be
completed within three days of the inspection.
4.2 Distribution: Jobsite safety inspection reports shall be distributed to the project
superintendent, project manager, general superintendent, operations manager,
director of risk management, director/vice president of operations, director of
field operations, and president.
5.0 Safety Coordination
5.1 Communication: Between safety inspections, the safety coordinator shall
maintain contact with project superintendents within his region to keep
abreast of hazardous activities which may require attention and to follow up
on previous inspections in order to ensure violations have been corrected. |
