Position Highlights This position advises students on policies, procedures, and academic requirements both for general education and CBC undergraduate programs. Assist students in schedule planning to achieve academic success and meet academic requirements. Help students explore careers, evaluate academic abilities, and set goals. Present academic information to groups of students and their parents during Summer and Spring orientation. Engage in program-related activities and projects for the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry - Sci.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Advise students on University, College, and Department policies, procedures, and academic requirements.
  • Assist students in course scheduling and planning to achieve academic success and meet academic program requirements. Conduct degree checks/audits for students planning to graduate.
  • Evaluate options for students who seek an exception to a course or program requirement. Evaluate transfer credits.
  • Assess students' stage of development (academic, career) to promote academic growth by determining suitable developmental tasks. Help students explore pertinent internships, volunteer, and undergraduate research opportunities.
  • Assist student in establishing realistic and attainable academic and career goals.
  • Maintain student files, records , and database and document all pertinent student information in UAccess and in Trellis notes system.
  • Coordinate with colleagues and other offices as needed to develop student support programs.
  • Participate in special projects to improve advising and to develop professionally.
  • Help coordinate peer mentor programs for incoming freshman.
  • Help coordinate and participate in student events such as recruiting, career information events, and convocation.
  • Present academic and program information to groups of students and their parents/guests during New Student Orientation. Assist with schedule review.
  • Assist with assessment of undergrad program via exit interviews and surveys.
  • Assist with enrollment of preceptors, research students, and other special courses as needed.
  • Screen students for pre-reqs in specific courses and advanced labs and make proper use of requirement groups in UAccess to manage enrollment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to effectively communicate with students and colleagues.
  • Familiarity with common computer tools such as spreadsheets and word processing.
  • Ability to quickly learn advising principles and university systems and tools to successfully carry out job functions.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • 1 year of relevant work experience is required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with undergraduates in higher education.
  • Experience using U of A software applications, including UAccess.
  • Two years of relevant advising work experience.

Notice of Availability of the Annual Security and Fire Safety Report In compliance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act), each year the University of Arizona releases an Annual Security Report (ASR) for each of the University's campuses.Thesereports disclose information including Clery crime statistics for the previous three calendar years and policies, procedures, and programs the University uses to keep students and employees safe, including how to report crimes or other emergencies and resources for crime victims. As a campus with residential housing facilities, the Main Campus ASR also includes a combined Annual Fire Safety report with information on fire statistics and fire safety systems, policies, and procedures.
