JOB SUMMARY

The Clinical Documentation Improvement Trainer (CDI) Trainer, is responsible for training staff on clinical documentation concepts and procedures to ensure accurate and precise documentation in the medical record to reflect the highest acuity level of the patient, support appropriate coding, and optimal reimbursement.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

Required
  • Experience

  • 3 years CDI experience. and

    5 years patient care nursing experience in acute care setting.

    Extensive clinical knowledge and understanding of pathology/physiology.

    Strong critical thinking skills and the ability to review the medical record to identify information not yet documented by supported by clinical evidence.

    Knowledge of the elements of disease processes and related procedures.

    Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to concisely and effectively communicate with team members, providers, leadership, etc.

    Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Licenses and Certifications

  • (RN) REGISTERED NURSE Upon Hire and

    (CCDS) Cert Clinical Documentation Upon Hire or

    (CDIP) CERT DOCUMNTATN IMPROVMNT PRAC Upon Hire
Preferred
  • Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in nursing.
  • Experience

  • Experience in critical care.

    5 years CDI experience.

    Previous experience in a remote working environment.

JOB DUTIES
  • Coordinates onboarding for all new staff
  • Trains new CDI staff on CDI concepts, procedures, and compliant query writing
  • Mentor and coach to ensure the CDI Team have the knowledge and skills for success
  • Performs concurrent and retrospective reviews on inpatient accounts to monitor progress of new and developing team members; Provides feedback to ensure their success
  • Maintains and implements the CDI orientation program
  • Develop training and reference materials; i.e., tip sheets, guidelines, etc.
  • Maintain and update training and reference materials to reflect current status
  • Updates based on, and not limited to, CDI industry trends, EMR and CDI technology, current coding and reimbursement guidelines, denials, PSIs, focused second level review DRGs, risk adjustment methodologies, etc.
  • Provide targeted training to improve the quality of clinical documentation
  • Collaborates with CDI Audit/Educators and CDI Leaders for educational needs for continuing education and staying up to date on changes in the department
  • Including requests from staff - this may include, and is not limited to, coding guideline updates, coding clinic updates, process changes, Hospital system diagnosis definitions, and CDI internal guidelines
  • Maintains an expert level of knowledge of CDI and Coding related guidelines and practices
  • Other duties as assigned
