Senior Director, Oncology Biostatistics Advisor

As the complexity of Oncology drug development continues to increase, with considerations such as drug combinations, synthetic control arms, platform trials, and the role of observational data, you will be a leader and a multidisciplinary subject matter expert who provides thought leadership on the use of cutting-edge statistical methods as well as innovative drug development pathways; and through advocacy and influencing internally and externally at the highest levels, drives their adoption.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as an advisor to GSK senior leaders at the governance boards to advise on drug development strategy across GSK portfolio, with primary focus in oncology.
  • Serve as an internal GSK biostatistics expert to provide guidance, expertise and insights into optimizing development plans across GSK portfolio for regulatory success as well as being able to influence the regulatory dialogue across the globe.
  • Build strategic and successful partnerships with key partner groups internally across Oncology R&D to ensure successful research and development.
  • Effectively Influence to ensure R&D strategies are aligned, optimal and practical.
  • Provide senior leadership and position to influence statistical thinking, clinical trial design, inference and decision-making within Oncology drug programs but also more broadly in terms of therapy area, business development, and clinical development plan strategy.
  • Ensure that advanced statistical methods, quantitative decision making as well as innovative development programs are adopted and promoted by the Oncology Statistics group and are at the cutting edge in the field.
  • Effectively communicate statistical information to both technical and non-technical audiences, creating a compelling case for the company's efforts with internal constituents, as well as external parties, which include collaborative partners in academia, industry and regulatory agencies.
  • Augment the company's external network by bringing to GSK new and valuable relationships, which can be effectively leveraged on behalf of Oncology R&D and the company at large in pursuit of its business goals.
  • Support oncology statistics in developing and driving forward GSK's overall data-enabled-disruption development strategy.
  • Represent GSK oncology statistics in the engagement with external committees and working groups.

Basic Qualifications

  • PhD Degree in Statistics or closely related discipline.
  • 15+ years' experience in the field of drug development including regulatory and/or pharmaceutical industry
  • 10+ years' experience supporting oncology from a statistical perspective
  • 10+ years' experience as a people leader

Preferred Qualifications

  • Expertise in a wide range of novel or emerging statistical methodology and the clinical/regulatory knowledge across different tumor types in the oncology research
  • Demonstrate ability to drive and influence oncology strategic direction
  • Exceptional capability to influence leadership
  • Familiarity with regulatory interactions and pathways
  • Adept at:
    • Embedding talent management throughout the team
    • Provide constructive feedback to enable team members to perform to their optimum
    • Create and lead an empowered, motivated team where diversity of thought is encouraged.
  • Track record of strong statistical contributions and accomplishments in clinical drug development, with a broad knowledge of all phases of drug development (pre-clinical; Phase I-IV).
  • Demonstrate ability to lead or make major contributions to department, organizational and/or industry-wide initiatives, through effective communication and influence.
  • Demonstrate exceptional strategic and statistical thinking ability
  • Excellent communication, influencing and leadership skills.
