Overview

The Systems Administrator is primarily responsible for troubleshooting and resolving incidents and requests assigned to the Infrastructure Operations work queue. In addition, this position is responsible for effective installation, configuration administration, and maintenance of systems hardware, software, and services ensuring they are operating to expected standards, best practice and performance levels. Some of the core technologies you will be working with include Azure Backups and Recovery, Azure App Services, Azure Storage, Azure Virtual Machines, Azure Entra ID, Active Directory, DNS, Microsoft Exchange, SharePoint, Teams, Microsoft 365 products, and SQL. Occasional support of legacy VMware infrastructure may be required until migration is complete. Other key responsibilities of this position include provisioning of SaaS, PaaS, and IaaS configuring, and securing infrastructure, performing compliance tasks as directed by auditors, and interfacing with other internal IT teams to ensure incident tickets are resolved in a timely manner.



Responsibilities

    Monitor and maintain critical infrastructure systems, including:
    • Azure Backups, Azure App Services, Azure Virtual Machines, Azure Entra ID, and Microsoft 365 services (Exchange, SharePoint, Teams, etc.)
    • Perform basic SQL database support tasks.
  • Provide first point of contact for issue escalation within Infrastructure Operations.
  • Primarily focused on incident queue providing daily, detailed ticket notes, timely communication, and resolution or escalation. Provide excellent customer service.
  • Azure Cost Optimization (FinOps):
    • Monitor and analyze Azure cost consumption, identifying optimization opportunities.
    • Implement cost-saving strategies such as resource rightsizing, reserved instance purchasing, and eliminating unused resources.
    • Provide recommendations to optimize cloud costs while maintaining performance and availability.
  • Adhere to system and team standards and follow installation and configuration procedures.
  • Maintain accurate system documentation and contribute to the knowledge base.
  • Research and recommend innovative and, where possible, automated approaches for systems administration tasks especially with a Infrastructure as Code approach.
  • Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all critical hardware, software, resources, processes, and scheduled jobs.
  • Diagnose and remediate hardware or software failures and monitor alerts.
  • Maintain accurate asset inventory.
  • Perform time-sensitive tasks required by auditors to maintain SOX compliance.
  • Communicate effectively with other teams, colleagues and manager during status update briefings and troubleshooting calls; make suggestions for how to improve operations as necessary.
  • Ensure compliance with patch management and security best practices.
  • Perform other infrastructure administrative and maintenance tasks as assigned by direct supervisor.
  • Participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation and perform responsibilities which sometimes require off-hours work.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or relevant experience. A technical field, such as engineering or computer science, is preferred.
  • 1-3 years of experience troubleshooting core Infrastructure Services utilizing a ticket queue.
  • 1-3 years of experience installing and configuring Windows Server on server class hardware.
  • 1-3 years of experience administering Azure services
  • 1-3 years of experience performing systems and application monitoring, maintenance, and administrative tasks.
  • Excellent documentation skills.
  • Strong sense of ownership and accountability.
  • Strong sense of urgency for resolving technical issues and mitigating customer impact.
