JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • This position provides a high level of customer service and routine technical support to citizens and the staff of the Growth Management and Community Development Services Departments. Reports to the Department Director or Designee.


ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • A high volume of direct customer service is performed to the general public, contractors, engineers and developers, in person, by telephone, email and written correspondence.
  • Greets all customers entering the second floor of the CSC Building, answers general questions and then directs them to the appropriate staff. Demonstrates appropriate conflict management skills when assisting irate or unreasonable callers or customers. Respects human diversity and responds professionally in all situations.
  • Keeps abreast of all daily scheduled meetings that will take place on the second floor of the CSC in order to direct attendees appropriately.
  • Primary position to answer phone calls coming in to the Building Division. Screens and routes calls, takes messages and schedules building inspections. Must be able to communicate clearly and concisely in a pleasant modulated voice, with sensitivity to the needs of others in all aspects of written and spoken communications.
  • Assists with the annual licensing renewals. Updates contractor's workers compensation and liability insurance. Updates the Department of Business & Professional Regulation (DBPR) information. Accepts red tag fee payments. Uploads scanned building plan images into the City's record management system.
  • Distributes mail, copies and scans paperwork and building plans, and prepares forms for Growth Management and Community Development Services.
  • Establish and maintain effective working and professional relationships with employees, supervisors, other city departments, and the general public.
  • Performs other work as assigned.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school graduate or G.E.D. with a minimum of two years' experience in customer service dealing with the general public that includes telephone/switchboard operations, use of office equipment, and cashiering or an equal combination of training, education and experience.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
  • Must have strong organizational skills, working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook and basic computer and math skills.


LICENSES/CERTIFICATES:

  • A valid Florida Operator's Driver's License is preferred.
