Position Purpose







This position is charged with responsibility for facilitating the delivery of world class care, patient safety, and the achievement of targeted clinical and economic results as related to the Pennington Cancer Institute (PCI) consistent with the fundamentals and strategic objectives of Renown Health. The incumbent shares responsibility for facilitating quality studies and processes of the organized medical staff such as morbidity and mortality review with the service line dyad partners.

This position is accountable for process improvement through the analysis, evaluation, and communication of information and data describing outcomes of care and outreach within the services of the PCI. The incumbent will drive planning and implementation of process change to promote best practice. The position works closely with providers and requires clinical expertise to identify and implement improvement processes, and to facilitate the best prevention and outcomes for the cancer population. The candidate will also oversee oncology related accreditations for the PCI.

Relationship building with operational clinical staff is imperative to assure responsiveness to the needs and demands of patients and providers. A relationship of understanding and trust between operational staff, providers, and this position is essential for the successful realization of expectations.









Nature and Scope







Assures evidenced-based standards of care for patients with cancer are met as required by The Joint Commission, American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer, and other regulatory and accrediting agencies related to oncology care.

Assures a data-driven approach to quality studies and improvement via collaboration amongst staff and partners to optimize structure, process, and outcomes.

Provide program coordination, administrative, and fiscal oversight to funded grants in accordance with the program goals, objectives, and work plan activities.

Provide leadership in population health and cancer control initiatives for PCI as well as making a significant impact on reducing cancer burden in Nevada.

Develop strategies for optimizing community outreach and engagement within the primary and secondary PCI catchment areas and within Nevada.

Responsible for quality program development, planning, organizing, implementing, assessing, and providing measurable results to the PCI.

Develop, implement, and oversee comprehensive strategic plan for population health and cancer control research and activities within the PCI.

Lead and collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team focused on cancer disparities, prevention, screening, early detection, survivorship, and access to quality care.

Develop and oversee community outreach and engagement programs to promote cancer prevention, screening, and early detection in underserved populations.

Responsible for the nurse navigator, cancer registry, accreditation, recognition, and other quality improvement programs and staff deemed essential to world class quality cancer care.

Monitors and communicates the quality performance of the PCI to staff and providers.

Functions as a role model in the use of nursing process and develops, introduces, and evaluates new approaches to evidenced-based standards of care.

Takes on other responsibilities as determined by the Service Line leaders for the PCI.

Maintains an active dialogue with the Renown Health Quality leader and facilitates coordination of PCI quality initiatives and performance in alignment with Renown's corporate quality programs and initiatives.

Has the creativity to formulate new programs within the discipline and the analytical skills to prepare accurate and persuasive business justifications to support all new proposals.

Has a passion for reducing cancer disparities and improving health outcomes in underserved and rural populations.

Has responsibility in the supervision of staff, including the authority to hire, transfer, suspend, layoff, recall, promote, discharge, assign, reward, or discipline employees.

Is required to use independent discretion and judgment with respect to supervisory and management decisions and recommendations.

This position does not provide patient care.

Description



Education:



Must have working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing, and speaking English. Bachelor's degree in nursing or other health related field. MSN, DNP, or other relevant Master's/Doctoral level degree strongly preferred.



Experience:



Minimum five years in a position in acute care and/or cancer care. Strong preference experience with responsibility for operation and quality of a service, or an administrative / managerial position with significant oversight and performance responsibility.



License(s):



Ability to obtain and maintain one of the following licenses required at time of hire: State of Nevada Registered Nurse license, Advanced Practice Registered Nurse, Physician Assistant, Certified (PA-C), Radiation Therapist, Dosimetrist, Physicist, Pharmacist (PharmD), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or Master of Social Work (MSW) - with Certification from American Oncology Social Worker Society or other relevant oncologic healthcare field.
