Role Description

The Parasitology Research team is hiring an Early Drug Discovery Scientist to help facilitate early research into novel veterinary therapeutics with various lead seeking activities. The candidate will work collaboratively within a matrixed structure, focusing on both endo- and ectoparasite biology/projects with the following expectations:

  • Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, discovery, and cutting-edge research focused on scientific excellence, open communication, and continual improvement.
  • Begin at the conception of new projects and helps advance to candidate selection.
  • Provide technical leadership for research project implementation and coordination.
  • Contribute critical thinking, technical expertise, and scientific insight to various project teams.
  • Integrate, review, and make recommendations based on data generated from other disciplines.
  • Clearly communicate results, challenges, and impact in presentations and conversations with broad audiences across the organization.
  • Engage with external partners, academic collaborators, and contract research organizations.
  • Act as a subject matter expert and provide input in relevant project team discussions.

Accountabilities:

  • Identify, plan, and execute well-defined scientific investigations into next generation anti-parasitic products.
  • Initiate investigation of new experimental approaches to specific problems using scientific theory and technical literature.
  • Use defined practices and theoretical knowledge to perform analyses, interpret results, and determine appropriate actions.
  • Utilize relevant information, technology, and resources to proactively contribute to solving complex problems and achieving objectives as a team.
  • Prepare and present comprehensive project and technical reports to a range of internal and external audiences, which may include the preparation of manuscripts for publication and presentations at conferences.
  • Take increasing responsibilities in the management of the study portfolio of the Parasitology Research team.
  • Represent the vision of the Parasitology Research team in internal and external discussions.

Education and experience:

The successful candidate will have the following degrees and experience:

  • PhD in Parasitology, Immunology, Molecular Biology, or a related field or 4+ years of relevant industry experience.
  • Technical expertise and track record in early drug discovery, ideally with experience in small molecule, vaccine and/or antibody-based therapeutics.
  • Experience working in an industry environment, especially veterinary drug development, is considered as a plus.

Technical abilities:

  • Fluent in English (spoken and written).
  • Ability to perform in a cross-functional team, be collaborative, highly motivated and have emotional intelligence to help foster an inclusive environment.
  • Demonstrates strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to prioritize effectively.
  • Professional and mature listening, writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in basic Microsoft Office software, AI applications and experience with data software such as GraphPad is a bonus.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to work on different concurrent studies and projects.
  • Ability to give day-to-day directions to study participants, external collaborators, and team members.
  • Ability to generate and drive team results.
  • Strong team player.
  • Interpersonal and multi-cultural savvy, as demonstrated by the ability to work effectively with colleagues from diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong awareness around Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
