Job Overview

As one of the oldest medical schools in the country, the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine (COM) has a reputation for training best-in-class health care professionals and developing cutting-edge procedures and research that improves the health and clinical care of patients. In partnership with the UC Health academic healthcare system and Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, College of Medicine's faculty are transforming the world of medicine every day. The Department of Environmental and Public Health Sciences is a top-tier department with world-renowned faculty and staff.

A full-time Post doc fellow position is available in the Division of Environmental and Industrial Hygiene, Department of Environmental and Public Health Sciences at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. The fellow will support aerosol and air quality research project focused in the areas of respiratory protection, exposure assessment, and instrument development. The successful appointee will work under the mentorship of Dr. Jun Wang and Dr. Sripriya Nannu Shankar, become a member of a highly productive research program focusing on aerosol and air quality issues in the environment. The successful candidate will possess excellent experimental and analytical skills as well as strong written communication abilities. Additionally, the successful candidate has demonstrated the ability to work collaboratively with team members of various research backgrounds, skills, and perspectives.

Essential Functions

  • Conduct research experiments related to exposure and control of aerosols and other airborne toxicants.
  • Gather and analyze data and develop new ideas that promote current research.
  • Participate/assist in manuscript writing for publication in scientific journals and/or presentation.
  • Assist in writing grant proposals to achieve funding goals for future research
  • Lab maintenance, including equipment maintenance and ordering of supplies, as needed.
  • May teach techniques to others, train, and mentor junior research staff.
  • Engage in appropriate training and professional development opportunities.
  • Play an active role in seeking career and research advice, both from the faculty supervisor and from other faculty members as well.

Required Education

Doctoral Degree in the appropriate field or discipline, or the recognized terminal degree.

Required Experience

  • In-depth knowledge of specialized field, process or discipline.
  • May require experience with specialized software programs.

Additional Qualifications Considered

  • Strong track of record in a field or fields related to aerosol exposures and its health effects.
  • Demonstrated practical written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated work history as a member of a research team.
  • Independent work capability with minimal supervision and direction.
  • Ability to train students with necessary experimental skills.

Physical Requirements/Work Environment
  • Office environment/no specific unusual physical or environmental demands.
