Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
Construction Services provides quality and professional construction services in support of maintaining, renovating and improving the function, safety, comfort and sustainability of campus facilities. The services delivered enable the University to preserve buildings while renovating, adapting and updating them to meet the changing needs of our customers and this campus. Our goal is to ensure that all projects are completed efficiently and effectively. Additionally, the quality of all craftsmanship will meet or exceed all Industry, Regulatory and University practices. Construction Services delivers renovation, alteration, maintenance or repair projects for the University with an estimated cost of less than five hundred thousand dollars ($500,000). Estimates are available upon request, prior to commencement of work.
Position Summary
A SIGN-ON BONUS OF $5,731 IS AVAILABLE FOR THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT OF THIS POSITION PAID IN 2 INSTALLMENTS WITHIN 12 MONTHS OF HIRE: $2,865.50 WITHIN 30 DAYS OF HIRE DATE & $2,865.50 12 MONTHS AFTER HIRE DATE.

Responsible for the overall management of assigned projects; the review, organization, planning and carryout of construction work assigned to the paint shop; and the supervision of the shop's employees. Project management involves the coordination of employees from the different trades shops, communication, and coordination with the customer, conducting preconstruction conferences, coordination with contract administrators for contract support, ensuring compliance with project design and applicable codes, ensuring quality of all work performed, ensuring that the cost of the work performed stays within the amount funded, and conducting final inspections with the customers. Additional responsibilities include purchasing the proper materials to assure that each project is completed on schedule, ensuring that each employee has the proper safety training and equipment, inspection of tools, ladders and other equipment and job conditions to assure employee safety, and making on-the-job decisions concerning any changes or differences in scope of project that might arise.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
High school diploma or equivalency and two years of experience in trade(s) areas assigned; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Ability to use Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook; construction experience; ability to supervise employees; read and comprehend complex blueprints and schematics; ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; ability to recognize problems at an early stage and take effective corrective action; ability to analyze job costs and make projects, and ability to plan and layout projects and coordinate required trades to successfully complete assigned projections. Working knowledge of State building codes. Ability to serve as a mandatory employee and report to work in support of essential (mandatory) University operations, even when adverse weather or other emergency conditions may require the University to close. NC Driver's License or ability to obtain one prior to start date.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Progressive construction experience; previous supervisory experience. Knowledge of AiM and the Time Information System ( TIM).
Required Licenses/Certifications
Special Physical/Mental Requirements
High degree of hand/eye coordination and hand manipulation. Ability to climb ladders and work from scaffolding; move objects weighing at least 50 pounds; and work for extended periods of time with hands above head.

**ELIGIBILITY FOR SIGN-ON BONUS
The selected candidate for this position may be eligible for a sign-on bonus. Qualified applicants must apply and be selected from the candidate pool of this posting and meet the State policy following requirements:

To be eligible for a Sign-on bonus, an individual must not have worked in a probationary, permanent, or time-limited appointment in the last 12 months as an employee in North Carolina state government, including but not limited to the judicial system, state executive branch agencies, and the university system in a position subject to the State Human Resources Act.

A newly hired permanent full time or permanent part-time (more than 20 hours a week) employee are eligible for a sign-on bonus (this will be prorated for employees working more than 20 hours and less than 40 hours per week).
