Why us, why now

The Manager, Communications for the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). This position implements communications activities across the ERAS seasons, during high exposure events, and throughout the year. Under the strategic direction of the Senior Director, Learner and Services Communications and in collaboration with the ERAS Outreach and Engagement team, this position is responsible for developing strategies and communication plans to build

key audience understanding of the value of AAMC products and programs.

How you will make an impact

ERAS and Specialty Communications Management
  • Create and execute strategies to raise and maintain awareness of the AAMC ERAS program for medical schools, students, programs, and specialties.
  • Create and execute strategies to promote participation in ERAS program from medical specialties.
  • Implement communications activities across ERAS seasons/cycles.
  • Work with the ERAS Director of Outreach and Engagement and the broader ERAS team to develop communications strategies and plans for ERAS cycles and major events.
  • Collaborate with ERAS Outreach and Engagement directors to develop and implement specialty-specific communications year-round.
  • Coordinate with the team to implement ERAS plans and activities aimed at ensuring that residency applicants, the medical school community, program coordinators and directors, faculty advisors, and specialty leadership have accurate and relevant information about the residency application process and system.
  • Work with Services marketing team to provide consistent messaging in all ERAS communications and marketing activities.
  • Ensure ERAS communications are built in the appropriate voice and shared on the appropriate platforms.
  • Build and share ERAS communications calendar with ERAS team, broadly via Services Master Calendar, and with outside strategic partners.
  • Collaborate with AAMC communications staff on strategy development, implementation, and evaluation of major outreach efforts (e.g., faculty advisor outreach, ERAS specialty communications, etc.).
  • Coordinate with staff on other teams such as Communications, Research and Development, Academic Affairs, Health Care Affairs, and Public Policy.
  • Inventory and curate the collection of ERAS collateral and materials and if needed create new resources.
Strategic Partnership Communications
  • Interact with members of strategic partner teams to ensure that shared communications activities align appropriately.
  • Develop and share collaborative plans and content for mutual review.
  • Manage SharePoint site shared with strategic partners.
Executive Communications
  • Draft communications for ERAS leadership including emails, talking points, etc. as needed.
  • Develop quarterly community message from senior leadership.
  • Craft monthly ERAS Insights leadership message.
  • Prepare social media posts for ERAS leaders.

ERAS Digital Content Management

  • Collaborate with Services Communications and Marketing team to develop content.
  • Monitor account to note trends and sentiment.
  • Work with AAMC social media team to feature timely ERAS content on AAMC social media channels.
  • Maintain ERAS-related webpages on aamc.org and AAMC Student and Resident website, making sure they are up to date and include relevant content.
  • Manage development, writing, and production of ERAS Insights, the monthly electronic update from the ERAS program.

ERAS Outreach and Engagement Support

  • Represent the AAMC at events and conferences 2-4 times per year
  • Write effective copy for outreach materials for audiences including students, fellowship applicants, residency and fellowship program contacts, specialty leaders and faculty advisors.
  • Edit ERAS team content (e.g. presentations, engagement emails, etc.) to ensure correct use of legally required AAMC trademarks and adherence to AP and AAMC style guidelines.
  • Work with ERAS Outreach and Engagement and AAMC research team to build timelines for survey email campaigns to audiences including applicants, advisors, and programs.
What you will bring to the role
  • Bachelor's degree
  • 8 - 10 years of related work experience; 1 - 3 years of experience managing a specialized program.
  • Experience with content management systems, social media tools, and emerging technologies.
  • Experience in synthesizing qualitative and quantitative data for assessment and improvement of outreach program effectiveness.
  • Familiarity with medical school or residency application processes is highly desirable.
  • Experience leading ad hoc teams/committees/project work.
  • Proficient in AP editorial style.
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills and ability to adapt to student and higher education audience.
  • Ability to translate dense, complicated information into clear instructions.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to formulate, develop, write, and implement strategic outreach plans and messages.
  • Knowledge of public relations, crisis communications, outreach, promotion, and content marketing principles and procedures.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects and competing priorities while giving attention to detail.

Compensation Grade Range

$113,560.00-$133,600.00/ Grade Mid-Point:

Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors may include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate's work experience, education and training, as well as internal equity, market, and business considerations.

If a bachelor's degree is required, related work experience may be substituted in some positions. One year of college course work at an accredited institution is equivalent to one year of related work experience.
