Position Summary Performs MRI and Radiographic procedures at a technical level. Performs a variety of technical procedures that will require independent judgment with ingenuity and initiative to apply prescribed ionizing radiation for Radiologic Diagnosis. Performs duties according to age and condition of patient. Assumes responsibility for designated areas or procedures as well as safety protocols. Possesses knowledge of human growth and development. Be able to understand the range of treatment needed
by each patient age group.



  • Maintains acceptable attendance and punctuality records in compliance with hospital standards.
  • Adhere to the Policy of the Medical Center to ensure that patient information and medical records are treated as confidential, in accordance with applicable state and federal regulations.
  • Performs MRI on all patients and assures quality of image before releasing patient.
  • Positions and transfers patients.
  • Provides immobilization devices as required.
  • Selects proper technical factors and imaging parameters on an individual basis.
  • Consults with physician and/or reads physician=s orders to determine proper testing procedures according to established protocol.
  • Assists the physician in preparing and administering contrast material.
  • Develops image by automatic processing.
  • Practices sterile techniques and prevents cross contamination. Adheres to Infection Control Policies.
  • When necessary, must transport patients to and from the Radiology Department.
  • Provides radiation protection in accordance with prescribed safety standards.
  • Responsible for delegated areas of authority in the performance of routine, MRI procedures.
  • Prepares all accessory materials and/or equipment for the procedures as directed by the Radiologist.
  • Examines image/results for adequacy; makes necessary adjustments.
  • Explains the procedure to the patient.
  • Assures patients and staff are treated in a courteous and professional manner. Exhibits respect and awareness of quality of patient care.
  • Maintains adequate records as directed. Requisitions are properly completed. Registers patients and answers phones as required.
  • Maintains orderliness and cleanliness of the MRI and Radiology rooms.
  • Takes inventory, request and secures all supplies and materials necessary for the MRI and Radiology rooms.
  • Cooperates with all personnel in the proper conduct of the department.
  • Maintains and recommends services for all diagnostic, MRI equipment.
  • Attends continuing education sessions regularly to maintain a high level of professional competency ie; ( licensure and certification requirements are met).
  • Attends hospital and departmental in-service training sessions as required.
  • Performs radiographic procedures when requested in an intraoperative, emergency and department setting. Performs other related duties as required.
  • Explains procedures to patients and/or accompanying family member and ensures understanding of same.
  • Supervises clinical instruction of assigned MRI and radiography students.


Position Requirements:



  • This position requires a minimum formal education of Associate Degree or certification equivalent and a minimum of 1 year job-related experience.
  • One year experience as a staff technologist; comparable hospital setting preferred. Satisfactory completion of formal radiologic training in an AMA approved.
  • New York State License Radiologist Technology ARRT.
  • Thorough knowledge of the principles and procedures of MRI.
  • Must possess oral and written skills for communicating with patients, physicians, and other staff.
  • Must possess some degree of independent judgment and discretion in performing procedures.
