While consulting experience and knowledge of renewable energy projects are preferred, we encourage applicants with strong interpersonal and project management skills-even if permitting experience is limited. This is a full-time, permanent position reporting to one of our Team Leads in Denver or Fort Collins, CO. We also welcome remote candidates based in Colorado, Minnesota, the Dakotas, Wyoming, or Montana.

We typically hire the followingpositions under this job opening:

  • Associate Project Manager - Natural Resources | Typically with at least five (5) years of relevant experience and expertise;
  • Project Manager - Natural Resources | Typically with at least seven (7) years of relevant experience and expertise.

However, those individuals with between 3 and 7 years of relevant industry experience are also strongly encouraged to apply.

What you will accomplish

Below please find the job responsibilities for a Project Manager. Responsibilities for an Associate Project Manager will include small, less complex projects, and supporting a project manager on larger, complex projects.

  • Oversee medium size, multi-year, multi-disciplinary development projects.
  • Develop and manage small to medium size project tasks and budgets including maintaining budgets, schedules, safety, and quality of service.
  • Oversee and execute the management of permitting efforts for renewable energy and transmission projects of all sizes and levels of complexityand/or controversy.
  • Review invoices, expenditures and complete project audits for projects and tasks.
  • Advise and execute on all aspects of project implementation, including the development of project permitting strategies, provide QA/QC of work processes and deliverables, and lead teams completing technical studies that support permitting efforts.
  • Manage projects that include state level permitting, local county level permitting, NEPA compliance, state and federal Endangered Species Act consultations, Clean Water Act Section 404 and Section 401 permitting, and cultural resources studies.
  • Coaching project teams to navigate land use permitting challenges and meet client needs.
  • Work closely with SWCA's resource scientists and environmental planners, managers and directors in natural and cultural resources throughout the company to promote SWCA's business interests in adherence to its mission, vision, and values.
  • Drive compliance of safety policies and reporting requirements to ensure overall team safety.
  • Embody and represent SWCA Core Values to clients, partners & subcontractors, public regulatory agencies, and SWCA staff.

Experience and qualifications for success

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in planning, biology, environmental science, natural resource management, environmental planning, public administration, communications, archaeology, anthropology, geology or other related field.
  • At least five (5) years combined experience in project management, planning, environmental communications, natural resources, public outreach, or ecological, archaeological or geographical studies required.
  • Candidate should have a demonstrated ability to strategically execute local/county land use permit approvals and/or stakeholder facilitation for a variety of project approvals pursuant to local, state, and federal laws governing environmental resources and land use decisions.
  • Demonstrated experience with federal agencies such as the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), Bureau of Land Management (BLM), US Forest Service (USFS), and/or US Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), and other state/local agencies.
  • Experience with project team supervision.
  • Experience and ability to manage multiple small or medium size projects, in diverse settings and with changing requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience working in a fast-paced work environment and desire to work in a highly collaborative team atmosphere.
  • Demonstrated skills in interpersonal communication, collaboration, and high-quality decision-making.

PREFERRED OR HELPFUL

  • American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification and/or Project Management Institute Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
  • At least seven (7) years of project management experience is strongly preferred.
  • At least three (3) to five (5) years of private consulting experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience supporting or leading multi-year, multi-disciplinary projects; leading meetings with clients, agencies, and the public; directing project teams including subcontractors; preparing or directing staff in the preparation of technical studies and documents; and setting and adhering to project budgets, scopes, and delivery schedules.
  • Coaching project teams to design public outreach and facilitation strategies and implementation to meet client needs.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence; decision quality; attention to detail; and organization, schedule, and budget management skills.
  • Ability to be recognized by clients and agencies as a strong land use project manager or deputy project manager able to lead or assist in the development of land use planning, permitting, and compliance documents through project completion

Denver, CO based:

Associate Project Manager - Natural Resources | $69,943 - $89,435/year

Project Manager - Natural Resources | $77,396/year - $100,328/year

Fort Collins, CO based:

Associate Project Manager - Natural Resources | $66,612 - $85,176/year

Project Manager - Natural Resources | $73,710/year - $95,550/year

Actual pay within this range may depend on experience, qualifications, geographic location, client requirements where applicable, and other factors permitted by law. Regular-status employees are also eligible for performance bonuses.
