As part of the GTE Financial team, the GTE Technology Solutions Intern will have the opportunity to engage in a variety of projects. IT Systems Intern is responsible for functions within the IT Infrastructure and Networking functions of the credit union. This includes work in Data Center operations, Community Financial Center connectivity, Cloud functions, and even Artificial Intelligence (AI) initiatives. The intern is also involved in a wide variety of complex reporting and analysis as requested by credit union management.

What does GTE look for in a GTE Technology Solutions Intern?

One of the key objectives of the Technology Solutions department internship is to provide a meaningful and educational work experience. The intern role is limited to the internship program terms only.

What You'll Learn:

GTE Financial's Technology Solutions (TS) department plays a critical role in IT infrastructure, cybersecurity, and innovation. The 2025 TS Information Technology Intern will contribute to three key projects focused on cybersecurity, IT modernization, and cloud technology while gaining hands-on experience in real-world cyber event management, cloud infrastructure, and artificial intelligence integration.

Project 1: Cybersecurity & Ransomware Defense

  • Assist in ongoing efforts to combat ransomware, including implementing anti-ransomware objectives and security best practices.

  • Support the team in simulated or real-world cyber events, responding to and mitigating potential security threats.

  • Gain experience in threat detection, vulnerability assessments, and incident response in an enterprise IT environment.

Project 2: IT Infrastructure Modernization - Cloud Printing

  • Participate in modernizing internal IT infrastructure, focusing on cloud printing initiatives.

  • Assist in the 2025 refresh of the MFP (Multi-Function Printer) fleet, ensuring seamless integration and enhanced efficiency.

  • Gain insight into IT hardware, software deployment, and cloud-based printing solutions.

Project 3: Cloud & AI Integration

  • Compare and evaluate cloud-based solutions versus traditional physical IT environments.

  • Expand upon previous AI integration initiatives, identifying new ways to leverage artificial intelligence in IT operations.

  • Support ongoing research and implementation of cloud security, automation, and AI-driven optimizations.

Program Highlights:

  • Full-time hours, up to 40 per week, with the expectation that this internship will be your primary focus.

  • Gain hands-on experience in cybersecurity, cloud computing, IT infrastructure, and AI-driven solutions.

  • Work directly with IT professionals on critical infrastructure projects that impact the organization.

  • Develop problem-solving and analytical skills in a high-tech, real-world environment.

Experience:

  • Interest in cybersecurity, cloud computing, or IT infrastructure.

  • Basic knowledge of networking, IT security, or cloud-based systems through coursework or certifications.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to think strategically about IT challenges.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and familiarity with IT management tools.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, applying discretion in decision-making.

  • Effective communication and documentation skills, especially in a technical setting.

Operational:

  • Must demonstrate a functional knowledge of the Bank Secrecy Act in addition to other Federal laws, including but not limited to the U.S. Patriot Act, Office of Foreign Assets & Control, Anti-Money Laundering, Right to Financial Privacy Act, and the Bank Bribery Act.

  • Bilingual preferred (English/Spanish).

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0

  • Enrolled in an accredited University

  • Must submit a cover letter, resume, transcripts and provide three references

  • Demonstration of extra-curricular and community service activities

Position Details:

  • Location: Downtown Tampa - GTE Headquarters

  • Department Hours: Monday- Friday (8:00 am to 5:00 pm)

Full-time hours required, with additional hours as necessary to accomplish objectives, goals, and projects.

The position, however, is defined as hybrid in nature, (in-office, or remote) and may be changed at any time by management with appropriate notice, if possible.

Required for Remote/Hybrid Work:

  • A quiet workplace so you can focus on delivering excellent service to our members.

  • Some positions will require performance standards to be met to qualify for alternative work arrangements.

  • Required to have power and high-speed internet over 100MB (minimum).

  • Video capability (connection of 1.5 Mbps up and down recommended).

  • Candidates must provide and meet all technical requirements prior to the first day of training.

  • Hybrid candidates must live within driving distance of the office location and be able to regularly commute to and from the office location as needed.
