As part of the Community Alliance Response Engagement (C.A.R.E.) Team, the CARE EMT responds, along with a behavioral health specialists (BHT/BHP), to individuals experiencing a mental health or substance use concern, via the Flagstaff 911 Dispatch Center. Utilizing best practices for basic life support with the integration of crisis intervention by a BHT/BHP, the CARE EMT responds to and supports individuals and families in crisis. The individual will need to be professional, friendly, a self-starter, organized, and compassionate.

Bilingual in Spanish is a PLUS (Additional Language Differential is Available)

The CARE EMT will provide basic life support assessment and treatment within the scope of the Arizona Department of Health Services Bureau of Emergency Medical Services and Trauma System Emergency Medical Care Technician certification ("EMCT").

The EMT performing CARE Services determines that an individual requires medical care greater than basic life support assessment and treatment, the EMT will contact 9-1-1 Dispatch. The EMT will take responsibility for the medical care of that individual until an appropriate transfer of care can be completed.

Ability to critically assess a situation and call for additional resources as needed.

Your duties would include but are not limited to:



  • Demonstrates ability to identify and manage life threatening problems and assists partner(s) in managing them.
  • Obtain manual vital signs.
  • Interact with patients under a wide variety of circumstances.
  • Manage unpredictable or emergency situations.
  • Professionally interact with all levels of pre-hospital care providers from various agencies within response region.
  • Interacts directly with patients, families, the public, local community groups, law enforcement personnel, fire department personnel, physicians and nurses, as needed.
  • Ability to safely work around violent and other high risk patient populations.
  • Assesses each situation; remains calm in high stress situations and can work around loud noises and flashing lights.
  • Ability to document patient care.
  • Knowledge and skills to care for the physical and developmental needs of patients across the life span.
  • Assists partner in ensuring that CARE vehicle and workstations are stocked, cleaned and ready for daily use
  • Demonstrates expert knowledge in ALS and BLS equipment (set up, use, & management)
  • Engages in immediate treatment/safety planning in a variety of settings including but not limited to public areas, individual residences, and businesses.
  • Supports psychiatric hospital placements by providing coordination, planning and facilitation with hospital staff in support of partner.
  • Maintains client records and completes required documentation in the electronic health record in an accurate and timely manner
  • Displays flexibility and ability to adapt to change.


Qualifications

  • Preferred - Associate or Bachelor's degree in related field - or-
  • HS Diploma or GED
  • Required - Current Certification & Licensures as an Arizona Emergency Medical Care Technician (EMCT)
  • Proficiency with computer-based systems including electronic health records, Microsoft Outlook, and other Microsoft Office products.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Must have or be able to attain CPR/First Aid Certification within 60 days of assuming role.
  • Must have a valid Arizona driver's license, be (21 years of age) with minimum 4 years driving experience and meet requirements of Terros Health's driving policy. Driving is an essential function of this position.
  • Must have a valid Arizona Fingerprint Clearance card (Level 1) or apply for an Arizona fingerprint clearance card within 7 working days of employment.
  • Ability to perform physical demands associated with this role.
  • If serving as PRN/On-Call staff, must be able to commit or make an effort to fill at least four
