The Opportunity with McKinstry

We are adding a Preconstruction Manager to our growing Distributed Energy Resources division in Tampa, FL. Additionally, some responsibilities you will have include:

Project Management

  • Developing and updating indicative project schedules for bid and RFP responses
  • Managing the demands of multiple projects and pursuits simultaneously.
  • Comprehensive Scope of Work creation and gap analysis between various subcontractors.
  • Soliciting quotes and leveling bids for various trades to support the needs of the opportunity or project.
  • Evaluating bid estimates, provide "de-scoping' interviews with bidders to understand cost.
  • Communicating with subcontractors and vendors to provide clarity and build strong working relationships
  • Building a trusted internal network to facilitate teamwork and a sense of comradery
  • Taking technical challenges/needs/requests and translating them into common language for non-technical audiences
  • Identifying and tracking risks and opportunities within a budget as well as within a project. Provide Assumptions, Exclusions, and Clarifications to manage risk and inform proposals.
  • Generating preliminary assessments, technical solutions, fee proposals, presentations, studies, and general support.
  • Partnering with engineering teams (internal and external) to manage milestones, costs and project goals throughout design development
  • Transitioning subcontractor and vendor relationships from design to construction, continue to support the construction team through delivery.
  • Supporting and providing input to development strategies, goals, and objectives specific to project execution at each project phase.

Process Execution and Improvement

  • Continuous improvement and identifying how to get tasks done more effectively/efficiently
  • Triage high-level requests. dig into what needs to be delivered and then organize efforts to deliver a high-quality product.
  • Track project scope changes throughout design development and providing refreshed bids/quotes
  • Assume financial responsibility for projects by providing accurate, timely and relevant bids/quotes.
  • Facilitate negotiations of terms and conditions with subcontractors and vendors.
  • Reviewing contracts, drawings, specifications and other resources to answer questions in a timely manner.
  • Monitoring progress towards goals and market KPI's, anticipate and communicate potential problems.
  • Delivering accurate and timely data to support project and market forecasts.

Team Management

  • Developing project staffing plans to include labor, subcontractors, etc.
  • Acting as a steward of McKinstry culture; communicate and influence policies and procedures.
  • Establishing and leading associated meetings.
  • Bridge the gap between development and construction, facilitate reviews of deliverables (i.e. schedules, budgets) with construction team members and gain their signoff/approval

What You Need to Succeed at McKinstry

  • OSHA 30 certification required or must be obtained within 6 months of assuming the position.
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or Engineering or equivalent work experience required.
  • Five (5) years of experience in project management, engineering, or construction is required.
  • Proficient with scheduling software: Microsoft Project and Procore.
  • Experience working for a General Contractor or Major Mechanical Subcontractor preferred.
  • Strong preference for applicants with existing subcontractor/vendor relationships and networks.

The pay range for this position is $93,600-147,060 per year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Base pay information is based on market location. A bonus may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
