Senior Philanthropic Advisor

University Advancement at the University of Virginia (UVA) seeks highly qualified candidates for the position of Senior Philanthropic Advisor to join our Office of Gift Planning team. Reporting to the Executive Director for Gift Planning, this senior level position within the Office of Gift Planning will be responsible for working with some of the University of Virginia's highest potential donors and their professional advisors to maximize philanthropic impact. The Senior Philanthropic Advisor will increase the University's ability to accept gifts of complex assets in a timely and professional manner and will help donors and their advisors consider and understand charitable gift options that involve some level of tax, legal, or financial planning. The Senior Philanthropic Advisor must have a deep knowledge of charitable gift and tax laws and considerable experience structuring creative blended gifts and working with complex gift plans and assets, including real estate, closely-held businesses, partnerships, IRD assets, cryptocurrency, and other complex assets. The individual holding this position will partner with the University Advancement's executive leadership group to increase philanthropic support for the University of Virginia at the highest levels.

Key responsibilities:

• Provide timely, accurate gift planning advice and expertise to the University of Virginia's fundraising community, its donors, and professional advisors.

• Assist in the creation of gift proposals for prospects and their advisors.

• Travel as needed and at the request of the Executive Director for Gift Planning to assist with and carry forward new and existing gift conversations.

• Mentor and develop Gift Planning and other development officers in gift planning knowledge.

• Assist in the creation of educational sessions for the UVA development community on planned giving, blended gift strategies, and complex assets used to create philanthropic impact.

• Maintain a periodic in-office presence to conduct in-person meetings and educational programming for the University's fundraising community.

• In addition to the above-listed responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

Required Qualifications:

• Education: Bachelor's degree

• Experience: Ten years of fundraising experience including 5 years of management experience within deferred gift programs.

• Valid driver's license

Preferred Qualifications:

• Education: J.D. highly preferred

• Experience: significant prior experience in legal practice and/or higher education gift planning fundraising

• Track record of demonstrating a high degree of initiative, flexibility and the skills to shape and be shaped by an evolving position.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, a high degree of personal integrity, and attention to detail.

• Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with major gifts prospects, fundraising colleagues, academic leaders, faculty, alumni, and volunteers.

This position requires the ability to travel frequently on behalf of the University and participate in occasional evening and weekend responsibilities.

UVA Advancement offers a flexible and hybrid workplace. All team members must have access to and maintain a secure home office environment with high-speed internet service and work collaboratively with others using a variety of technologies and tools. This position will be required to work intermittently in our office building located in Charlottesville, Virginia. Although this position is eligible to work remotely, the incumbent should live within driving distance of Charlottesville to facilitate frequent visits to UVA Grounds.

This position is a restricted position and is dependent upon project need, availability of funding and performance.The anticipated hiring range is $175,000 - $195,000 and will be commensurate with education and experience.The University will perform background checks on all new hires prior to employment.
