Assistant Director, Research Administration - Neurology, Grants & Contracts

The University of Virginia Department of Neurology within the School of Medicine seeks to hire an Assistant Director of Research Administration. This position will oversee all Grants & Contracts Administrators for Neurology, to perform sponsored proposal, award, and compliance activities supporting our research mission, as well as coordinating budget proposals and the monitoring of awards received for research projects and programs. They will also have indirect oversight of the department clinical research coordinators.

This position will work closely with various stakeholders across the University and the School, including the Department Chair, to support the department on pre- and post-award research projects.

Responsibilities:

• Review sponsored projects to ensure compliance with University procedures.
• Ensure understanding of the current fiscal performance of studies and identify areas of concern that need resolution.
• Monitor proposal status and provide advice about requirements and deadlines.
• Manage budget, reporting, and compliance timelines through the lifecycle of the grant or contract.
• Create, establish, and implement project management plans for complex projects.
• Interpret departmental policies and procedures, making decisions on specific operating problems and issuing instructions on behalf of unit.
• Supervise and train other grants and contracts junior professionals.
• In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

This position is eligible for hybrid and/or remote work. The offered salary will be commensurate with experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience developing, reviewing and/or submitting proposals for federal funding agencies.
• Demonstrated ability to clearly communicate with internal and external audiences as it relates to sponsored projects research.
• 5+ years of experience working in Neurology research administration.
• A Master's degree in a related field of study.
• Certified Research Administrator (CRA) certification.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education: Bachelor's degree.
Experience: At least seven years of grant and contract experience, typically in an academic environment. Four additional years of experience may be accepted in lieu of degree.
Licensure: None.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings and programs.
